BT turning speed down and latency up ??

  • Hi kwikbreaks
Service took a few days to degrade after the switch (odd that it's happening again just like it did with TalkTalk - which is why I posted).

Will spend tonight investigating the SNR/DSLAM avenue and report back on any progress.

    Many thanks for your help

    regards

    Mark

Have you tried setting DNS IPs directly on PC rather than getting them from router? And also using google DNS 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4? If your exchange is not open then all suppliers will be using BT wholesale lines. The difference will be the DNS and, I believe, the connection from wholesale to internet.

On a migration like this the profile doesn't get reset so it would have stayed as it was. In any event it would be the same DLM on the same physical line.

DNS may have some impact on initial entry to websites but will have none at all on the noise margin or sync - they are all purely physical.

Have you used the same cables for each test?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Which routers (Make & Model) have you been using? whether there is something in the chipset type of the routers you have used and what hardware is used in the local exchange\by isp? When I was with sky and moved house the connection kept dropping out, so I changed from there old white modem\router to newer model and it worked much better.

Yes the model is important as Netgear certainly use both TI and Broadcom chipsets. I've had poor performance from TI based routers in the past where others have sworn by them so the difference must be what is running n the exchange.

The only fly in the ointment with this possibility is that the OP has specifically stated the same router was in use with all 4 ISPs and certainly both of the last two would be on exactly the same port at the exchange too.

I'd say if all the routers that have been tried are TI it is worth trying to borrow a Broadcom based one and vice versa.
