Success thread?

Hi :-)

Just joined (tax bill issue) and am looking around the place as you do. Came across this forum and have been reading it. Just wondered if there is a thread/forum to post consumer rights success stories?
As a 'tight' Yorkie I value my 'you're not getting owt out of me' reputation and have a couple of consumer rights 'wins' to share, could help others in the long run I guess if a win you read about on here and the same situation comes your way?

Thanx.

I'd say tell us, its nice to know who is good to buy from, rather than who to avoid.

If you've won a consumer rights issue with a retailer you should put it on here as it's a consumer rights story and can help others.

There is nothing in this boards title that says only questions about consumer rights are allowed.

Right then, I have 3 that spring to mind :-)

This is years ago mind, before computers.

When I was in the forces I had a Jack Blair account, these were the Navy's tailors but if you had a credit account with them you could use it elsewhere, one of these was an electrical goods retailer Scottish and Southern Electric (remember them?) Anyway, this was pre chip and pin or card readers, transactions were via a paper slip and swipe machine (the oldies will remember these). I bought a telly from them and thought nothing of it, my payments went out etc for this and other stuff I had used my JB account card for. I got a letter saying that owing to a fire at the SSE head office, any queries would be handled by blah, blah, blah. Coincidently, the aerial socket on the telly became dodgy at the same time so I called and tried to get it sorted; they said owing to the fire, they couldn't verify that I had bought the telly from them as all paperwork had been lost. I immediately asked how then could they continue to take payments for an item they themselves disputed I had bought from them? They didn't know what to do LOL. Accept my claim and replace the telly, or reject it and know they couldn't enforce the debt.

I got the full cost of the telly refunded, owing to the fact they could not establish how much of it I had paid. I got the telly repaired elsewhere cheaply, and it lasted another 3 or 4 years.

    :-)

This ones a bit of consumer rights, and a bit of brass neck.

Bought a Fuji Finepix digital camera from Dixons. It drained the batteries after 5 or 6 pictures. I bought it in my home town but I was still in the Navy and based at the MOD so I took it back to Surrey Quays in SE London, it was near Xmas and packed. Explained the situation to the guy who wanted to test it. He proceeded to wander round the shop apparently taking all these pictures that I knew he couldn't be. He disappears from view (changing the batteries I reckon) comes back "Nothing wrong with that" and goes on to say they haven't got anymore of them anyway I will have to go direct to Fuji, blah, blah, blah. I ask for the manger who just repeats all this gumph, I explain the SOGASA (Been a member of Which for years) but no good, on the basis he didn't have any of that camera left (they did have one 2 models up) This goes on for 30 minutes and finally I say OK, I'll come back. I could see him smirking as I left, what they didn't count on though was a gobby northerner. I went to the pound shop opposite, bought a kids stool for a quid, went back in and put the stool on the floor near the door, stood on and shouted 'Ladies and Gentleman can I have your attention please, you should consider this before you buy anything here...' By which time I was been hastily ushered into the mangers office. 10 minutes later I walk out with a brand new camera 2 models up.

    :-)

And a quick one to finish cos I know I go on a bit.

Had a fridge replaced after almost 5 years as it broke down through no fault of mine. I never buy extended warranties, you don't need them. But you must ensure you do everything right. In this case they checked to make sure I had used the plastic spacers that come with refrigeration gear to keep it the required distance from the wall.

There a few more, but maybe later. What stories you lot got?

    :-)

Scottish & Southern Electric still exist. They're now called SSE and were previously Scottish Hydro Electric. Their main office is based in Perth, Scotland. :)

(My MIL has them as her gas, electric and phone supplier).
