I would like to be able to record (for example the Archers or an Afternoon Play) so I can listen to it in the car or on a TOMTOM 910 store it as mps afain to listen in the car. It was easy when I had a radio cassette recorder at home which would "timer record" and the car had a radio cassette.
Would be even better if I could record from listen again or Radio 7.
I have a laptop as well as a PC but I am not very clever on the computer !

Sorry, but with the grammar and typos, I don't fully understand.
I believe you want to convert a CD to MP3 to play it into the car? If yes, have a look at Exact Audio Copy:

abit technical but you need the following:-
The direct link to the realaudio file with involves following the bbc source code or using the links at http://dave.org.uk/streams/
NetTransport - http://www.xi-soft.com/
And finally software to convert realaudio to mp3 - can't recommend any
It's a right hassle but it works0 -
You want to record radio thro laptop to MP3 (or Tom Tom), didn´t think it could be done0

Oh, how do you record a radio stream? Oh, now it makes sense.
Well, if it's a stream such as Shoutcast, I tend to use StreamRipper myself:

Or you could try Freecorder

Records whatever sounds your pc is playing to MP3It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
The BBC uses Real Player to stream it's listen again content to you on the web. There is a really good guide to downloading and converting real audio content here:
http://swen.antville.org/stories/735413/
Also, the BBC does do some podcasts (which are in mp3 format) so you can download these directly and copy them to your 910.
See here for the BBC instructions:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/waystolisten/podcasts/- = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0 -
This subject is also discussed at some length here. There's loads of ways to capture these streams and then convert them, but as it's a two-stage process then it's bound to be a bit fiddly.
As Lakeuk comments, still worth the effort. The BBC podcasts are still at the experimental stage, and exclude lots of music that's the subject of copyright agreements.0
