DH saves seeds from everything that produces one! We have prolific crops of santini tomatoes from original punnet of M&S tomatoes. Plus whatever other sorts they sell. Butternut squash is produced from Drying seeds as are melons. Just puts them on a bit of parchment - they stick to kitchen roll - then raises them in his homemade propagation and away you go. Best fertilizer is produced from the muck heap at our local stables.

Dig a trench approx 24 inches deep, put a layer of manure, overfill with ground then start planting. Once the roots reach the manure t he difference is amazing.

As another poster said on here they had bought seeds from Aldi I posted on their facebook page and they basically told me that the seeds aren't "out" yet and will be on a "special" some time in the next few weeks.
Our nearest Aldi has no seeds in, BUT went to the much bigger aldi's near inlaws and the seeds WERE in there.

The list is here on the Aldi site
    https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/flowers-gardening/flowers-gardening/gardening-plants/seeds-and-bulbs/

I got my sweetcorn seed from here as its cheap for sweetcorn and usually its not one of the types of seed that get in the cheaper ranges :)

So thanks to the earlier poster otherwise I wouldn't have known to look out for them.

Buying seeds by price alone can be a false economy. The difference between varieties of vegetables can be quite marked so it is best to decide what variety you want first - then start wondering where you can buy it cheapest.
  • Our seeds are in aldi this week & are amazing value .I got some last year. They had some good value standard bay trees, lavenders and rosemary.
So long as you get there quick when they all arrive on the delivery ( I mean the plants not the seeds)you can get some bargains. The staff dont have time to water them or look after them so can look a bit sad after a few days. Then we can come along and pick up a bargain!I got a bramley apple ,a pear tree both reduced and my amaryllis in a pot from Christmas just flowered & had 2 stems.
I buy my seeds from Chiltern & Simpsons but get together with a friend and chose & buy together saving postage.

I know what you are getting at Badger and some things I am having to order online to get the variety I want or a type of veg/herb that doesn't seem to pop up in the cheaps ranges of seed, but I have found the cheap ranges in the discounters, aldi, lidl, et al to be as good as more expensive seeds and the varieties are listed now (at one point you got a generic label). I haven't found any cheaper seeds to be lower performers and in fact one of my new fav tomato varieties is "Hildare" from Lidl that grows tasty salad type toms and is extremely fast growing and hardy as well as blight resistant. It did well in the greenhouse, but I stuck one extra seedling in the ground outside and had to dig it up in November as it didn't seem to be dying back lol. Had a high yield so I definately growing again.

There are many value seeds to be bought at some of the high street discounters such as Aldi and Wilkos but for the special stuff F1 etc try the link below. They have the latest varieties and the prices are very very keen Try a company called Wallis seeds.

I know many of you will look at my first post with an advice to buy as suspicious but I am a professional Horticuluralist who has almost 40 years in the trade and just wanted to pass this on, to do my bit for all the money saving tips I have had from this forum.
PS as a new user I can't put the link up just type wallis seeds into google they are near colchester or chelmesford and do mail order

Just had my seedparade order as well. Good numbers of seeds (probably more than I will grow but I will give some away). No fancy packaging but all growing instructions are on the website. Mine were all 99p apart from the peppers which were 19p. Put them all on my spreadsheet with a note of what gets planted when. I also bought quite a few packets at 50p from our local Wyevale back in October. They are last year's but should be fine for sowing this year. Getting really excited about another year on the allotment.

Just for info my local Lidl had their seeds out this week, decent selection.

Got a pack of pot marigold seeds-good companion plant and is edible, will be going into a permaculture bed I am planning. Usually you get the african and french marigolds not the pot marigold in the cheap ranges.
