Ripped off ....i think - Aerial

Hi All

3 months ago , the 3 bed house we bought had no aerial , we had one installed , it cost £300 for labour and aerial , apparently the sturdiest , best one you can get

Anyway, its all too late now , but i think i overpaid , in any event , we then had an internal stud wall with a TV point within , taken out as part of a refurb , and it was that point we were going to use as a kitchen diner TV point

What is the cheapest , best way of getting a picture where we need it , does someone come out , feed down from existing aerial and drill into our outside wall through into a new aerial plate/point ?
?

Idea welcome but i`m wary of the costs

So, where is the currently aerial lead that was going to the stud wall? Is it still hanging around somewhere?

Are you in an area with a reasonably strong signal?

How far away is this lead from where the new socket needs to go?

Have you got any basic DIY skills?

    Hi WTFH

    Sandy transmitter
Old aerial lead is beyond the ceiling, which is freshly plastered....

basic DIY skills yes but i wont try to retrieve this particular aerial lead as would involve some sort of disturbance of the artex (asbestos within) ceiling so would rather have some sort of fresh point?

Could you get to the lead from the floor above?

tbh i am not even sure how it gets from the thingymejig downwards anyway , i might have to take a fresh look up there , thing is though , even if i can `pull it back` through the joists and up , how do i get it to the back wall of the house (where the point is required) without drilling through the ceiling ?

If it's going to an outside wall of the house, then there are two ways of getting it there... inside or outside.
To go the inside route, you'll need to go down through a wall (stud wall would be easiest), or down through the ceiling.
To go the outside route, you might be able to re-use the existing cable, but you might need a longer one, so buy a new cable. Wiring it into the aerial is quite simple, then just cable clip it down the wall. Drill a hole through the wall (going slightly upwards as it goes in), pass the cable through that, then put a socket on the inside. Seal the hole off with silicone.

Ah, you didn't mention the amp in the loft!
If that's the case, then you'd need to run the new cable from the amp out through the wall (easier would be through the eaves in the roof), then down the outside and back in.

BTW, if you need about 50m of CT125 (very high quality aerial cable) and live anywhere near Surrey, let me know. I bought 100m of it 2 years ago because it was cheaper at that length than at 50m (which was all I needed)
