I can remember post being delivered virtually all day! the last one being at about 3 or 4 in the afternoon! I still find only one delivery a day a bit annoying! at least in the past, if it didn't arrive in the morning there was every chance it would arrive after lunch!0

I remember two posts a day-feel like it stopped here longer than ten years ago!
I remember the postman/ladies used to catch the bus with a sack of letters. Nowadays two postmen arrive in a van, park it in each of the local roads and get out a new lot of letters and parcels each time they re park.
Probably more efficient and our delivery is fairly predictable.Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000 -

Ours have a van and a trolley to push round the houses - there seems to be three posties delivering to our estate.
Yes I do remember first post and second post well.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Oddly, we had two deliveries on Saturday. First came through about 9:15, and the other was in the mid-afternoon.Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

We never did! I suppose we were too far from the nearest town to bother about. We only had bin collection once a fortnight in the 70s and 80s too.0

The second delivery wasn't scrapped until 2004!
It seems much longer ago than that.
Although sometimes we get two different postal deliveries here. The postman delivers the letters, and then a bit later, a van pulls up outside and delivers any parcels. My husband reckons I have a postman dedicated to my eBay parcels! :rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

My friend collects Victorian postcards. The post was so reliable that the messages on the back say things like "Dear Mum, I'll be home this evening so can you cook me some kippers for tea" - posted in the morning and delivered in time for Mum to cook his favourite meal.
I love old postcards. They are the Victorian equivalent of text messages!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Yeah, there were two morning posts in my area until the early noughties. Even though my former household was 200 yards from the sorting office, our "first post" used to arrive about 11am and our "second post" about 1 pm.
So when we got notified that there was only going to be one delivery a day and that about 1 pm it was a non-event, because if the post doesn't arrive before most people leave for work, it doesn't matter what time during the day it arrives, you'll always be running behind events. Mail comes to my city centre block circa 11.30 am, and they often seem to save it up so you get nowt for days (all of us, I mean) then a dollop of post arrives all at once.
It used to be perfectly possible to post a letter from Oxford to London and, if your recipient was prompt, get the response the same day. But that was prior to a lot of modernisation, of course.
I'm royally p-d off with royal mail and try to avoid them whenever I can. The biscuit was taken when they lost the rent cheque to my previous landlord and, when he'd informed me, and I'd incurred cost at the bank to cancel the missing cheque and went to get a compensation form, was surlily told at the sorting office; You shouldn't put anything valuable in the post.
It was a crossed cheque, not a pile of tenners, for pity's sake. I've also had my birthday cards from family (which didn't contain cash) mysteriously disappear for several years between their town and my city.
So I get them handed to me in person, and rarely consign anything to the post at all.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

OH is a postie, and in just the 6 years that he's worked as a postie the deliveries have got much longer. A decade ago it wasn't unusual for a postman to have started work at 5am and been finished and home in time to wave the kids off to school a few hours later! Now OH starts work at 7am and his delivery is supposed to end around 3pm, although it's often much later - yesterday he was still delivering stuff at 5.30pm and some people get angry at how late it is, but it's not like he still wants to be working in the wind and rain at that time either!
