Can anyone beat giffgaff £5 hokey cokey?

Hi,

New Year, New SIM. Just want about 60mins and several hundred texts. No data.

Can any other provider beat £5 per month?

Many Thanks.

Other than the ad supported networks like Ovivo and Samba, not that I know of.

And you'll probably need a data enabled phone to stay within their T&Cs.

Ovivo gives you 200 minutes, 300 texts and 500mb free each month, yes £0 per month, for a one-off payment of £20 for the sim.

No you don't need a data enabled/smart phone.

You get adverts when you google using a smartphone with data, but obviously not with a non-smartphone.

After 4 months, you are quids in compared with GG hokey-cokey.

Yep can confirm you do not need a smart phone with Ovivo, instead they send you the adverts email form so either set up a filter on your email server or give an email address dedicated to Ovivo only . Currently using my Ovivo sim in a Nokia 6310i !
  • Ah wow, I just have a basic Samsung phone. Sounds too good to be true but I will check it out.

    Many Thanks!

  • Nothing wrong with at least looking at the emails and possibly clicking through occasionally (If not actually buying something) considering you are getting a free service.

If you want it to last people need to do this to support their FREE service!!
  • only reservation is the SMS text messages, I will have to put my text ringer on silent, and the inbox could fill up if I've in undated.

I wonder if I can transfer my phone number.

Can you not have a different (silent) ringtone for the ovivo texts? Or block the number?

I have had Ovivo for about 4/5 months now and have never received an ad type text message from them. I do however get the emails from them .
Yes you can port your number over to Ovivo in the normal way and you get £3 extra credit put on your account.
I presume you know that out of the £20 initial charge £15 of that goes on your credit.

What are your reservations re text messages - I don't understand your comment? What do you do for text messages at present?

I got my partner onto Ovivo last August. She has a basic Samsung phone (not smartphone) and has had no problems with using it on Ovivo. Switching her number to Ovivo from O2 was quick and easy, you just need a pac from your current phone company.

She gets advertising emails from them but they aren't intrusive and you can always direct them to spam if you wish although I have found one or two good deals on them so they may be worth checking.

Ovivo use the Vodaphone network so make sure your phone is unlocked (or already on Vodaphone).

I've never had texts from them. They could start advert texts but it is unlikely as then they might lose too many people, whereas people don't mind email ads and although the internet browsing ones are sometimes intrusive, I don't browse much so it doesn't bother me.
