    Even though we *could* afford other house, it doesn't mean we *should*, so will be sticking with house number 1...lower mortgage and less DIY needed :D
  • Well it sounds like in your case there are some serious differences between the properties, and if the second house needs a serious refurb, multiply your guesstimate for costs by 2! Also keep in mind that if a house has been let to get down to such a state that it needs a complete overhaul, things are likely to come up in a survey. So, it sounds like a big job. I would only encourage you to to and look at it if you are (like me) only wanting to buy a house for the next 20 + years. In that case a bit of trouble with the house you are currently buying will be forgotten in time. I did keep looking on RM after I had offer accepted on a house, which turned out to be a good thing because then a horrible survey came back and made me realize I had a very expensive deal on my hands and a little while later another house that had also previously "sold" the same week I had my offer accepted on my house, came back on the market. Because I know how in-demand the property was I was in a good position to judge my negotiation point (realistic!) and I am now, knock on wood, buying this house. Good luck!
