Shouldn't have looked on rightmove after offer accepted!

Lesson for other buyers......

Should exchange/complete by end of February.

Have been looking on rightmove regularly at new houses coming onto the market. For about 2 months have been confident the house we're buying is the right one.

Until yesterday. Why oh why did I keep window shopping??!

Lesson learned! Now like this new house I've seen, despite it being over budget and needing a complete refurb and right next door to a school :o where as the one we're buying is on a quiet road and in good condition, under budget...but has a north facing garden and a load bearing wall we want to knock down...

No longer allowing myself on rightmove ;)

Buying a house is a huge decision and at the moment prior to exchanging contracts you are not committed to buying. As you have doubts, go to see the other house to see if it is a good as it looks from the photos and description.

I do think you need to assess what you want and if you are going to pull out of the first house do it as soon as you are decided so they can put it on the market again.

Just done the same thing and saw one in a better locstion, however it is over budget. Best to think of the possative things and how much money you will save.

it is too tempting to keep looking though.

I will always see somthing better but am happy with what iv chosen.

I wish ONE would come up now that I'm looking that seems a bit interesting. They're either nice, but too small and £30k under budget, or they are too big and £20k over budget.
  • It's been stressful enough to get this far so don't know if I could one, bring myself to start from scratch or two, pull out and be that mean to the vendor. :A

The new house needs loads of work, but the house next door sold in 2012 and what they did to it looks AMAZING! So I keep thinking we could do that too...but it's 20k over budget if not more and the renovations wouldn't be recouped on a future sale...I do think its overpriced, but there's so few 4 beds out there at a half decent price I think it will sell for asking :/

I think you're right, think of the positives of the current house we're buying. I would like to view it, but OH is against it due to how close to exchange we're getting....
  • Do not let your heart rule your head.

Sigh, no, I can't do that either.

    Good luck!

As you are already buying the first house then you are just wasting your time (and the vendors time) if you go and view any other houses now.

Anyway, don't underestimate the chances of your vendor finding out if you went out viewing another house and throwing a fit about it.

I know its all too tempting to keep on looking on RightMove after having offer accepted on a place, but you have to be firm with yourself that "looking" is literally ALL you are doing. I kept viewing RightMove myself after starting buying current house and it was done just to reassure myself that I was buying the best available house for my budget. I did duly get that reassurance that that was the case, but it won't necessarily be the case for everyone still having a crafty peep After The Event.

we can all dream about fantasy houses.

Unless there is a realistic chance you can get it at price you can afford and find the money to do it up it is just a dream.

If it is in range at the current price/do it up costs your budget was wrong.

The key question to ask yourself, are the compromises made on the chosen place the right ones.
  • Having pulled out of two purchases last time we sold/bought all because I couldn't keep off RM, I would agree that it's best to steer clear once you've had an offer accepted - although that's easier said than done :o

We pulled out of the first one after I found a larger, more *interesting* period project whilst browsing RM. Unfortunately close to exchange we discovered the second house was about to lose its uninterrupted open countryside views due to some new builds the vendor/their EA had omitted to mention. Hence we pulled out of that one too.

We ended up buying another period project - a really major one - but now realise house number one would have been our best bet after all......if only I'd stopped looking on RM :(

I still keep looking on Rightmove 11 months after we moved and have yet to find a house like ours at a cheaper price but just enjoy looking.

    ...and me..

Not down to enjoying looking, but I have a re-check every time I get (yet another) bill of the unexpected variety (courtesy of finding yet another thing the blinkin' vendor carefully chose not to mention:() to see whether I have overspent on the price I paid for this house.
