Hi friends,

Virgin media claimed on the phone that they are the only one to offer cancellation without penalty on price increase.

Is this true ?

It is certainly true since 2009 they have always advised customers (when there is a price increase) that they will allow a no-penalty exit from any minimum term in their letters - with the caveat that this offer is valid for 30 days from receipt of the letter.

Other carriers have been less up front, but I have heard no penalty exits were at the discretion of the operator (as a goodwill gesture only)

That said, OFCOM plans to add this to all telco licences sometime in 2014, making it a 'right' of termination.

Yes, and you can ring up retentions in light of the letter and they'll offer you a deal.

When does this come into effect? And this would be enforced on new contracts after the law comes into place.. ?

Planned for sometime this year, won't be 'law' though.
