Phone upgrades
Options
I have three months left on my mobile phone contract and need to upgrade. Reason being is because my handset does,nt work properly anymore. ( I suppose dropping it a number of times has,nt helped ) anyway, I phoned my provider and asked for a free upgrade. They the 3 network were not interested, unless I pay a £27 fee upfront. What I need to know is, is this normal practise, or am I intitled to a free upgrade. It was a two year contract.

As you are still in the minimum term they can charge you. Once you have finished the minimum term tell them you want to leave - see what they offer you then.
In the mean time buy a cheap phone to tide you over.0 -
You get an upgrade as a "reward" for staying and taking a new contract with them.
As you haven't completed the initial contract they have no reason to give you a free upgrade, and you aren't "entitled" to one.
So weigh up the £27 they want for the early upgrade (they probably will add on any new minimum period to the 3 months still outstanding), plus having to stay with them for a further contract, against getting a cheap replacement (secondhand) till you can get a brand new deal (anywhere on the market) in 3 months time.0 -

Check the warranty on your handset, with the exception of Apple most of the big phone makers offer a 2 year warranty.
User damage (ie your dropping it) will not be covered but if its failed through no fault of the drops (long shot I know) then it may be covered.0
