Well then what do you suggest?? No holiday for at least 5/6 years til my dog passes away or try to think of a way to satisfy everyone?
Lots of people don't have a holiday - it isn't essential.
However, why not look for somewhere nearer to home where the journey won't be such a problem?0 -

Well, I did make a suggestion, I suggested socialising your dog so that he can go in kennels. Trust me, even the most pampered pooch who sleeps on the bed and eats out of a silver dish is still a dog, most of them are absolutely fine in a good kennel where they are walked regularly and get plenty of attention from the staff.
Having dogs does make holidays more difficult, that's just part of the deal, but it's worth it for everything we get in return. Being able to drive really does make everything about a hundred times easier, although of course that's expensive too.0 -
I realise it isn't essential but when you've got a little one under 3, its nice to have a special (albeit cheap, just butlins or haven, not new York) little trip in the year.
I've just thought of this little site not too far (50 mins by car) from us that is a caravan/camping park with a centre, swimming etc, that'd be great, would that journey be ok with a taxi? it's 40 miles. Still taking dog too.Up and onwards to the future!

Ask your Vets if they have any one on one home sitters they could recommend. you could also try these, I have heard some good reports for the ones in our area x

That sounds more realistic, why don't you ring a few local firms and ask for quotes? Don't forget to check the dog rules at the site too.0

Hi Wiggywoo,
Have you thought about your dog going to somebody elses home to be boarded? We have done this many times as I know my dog would starve herself and make herself ill if she was in kennels so I researched and found a company who provide usually retired couples/singles who are at home most of the day and pamper your dog like you would. I always asked for homes where there was not a resident dog either as she does like all the attention:rotfl: She used to love it and sulk when she came home, it turned out the lady used to make her fresh meals everyday and walk her constantly in the rural woodland. It is definately a great alternative and costs about the same as kennels.
If you lived closer I would take you myself, I love taking my dog away with the family to the point where if my OH talks about a luxury holiday abroad I say "What about Scotland"?:rotfl: He is getting a bit sick of the lack of sun now though:D
I think it is great that you are considering your dog as such an important part of your family.
Take Care

If you can travel by train then you should be able to manage if you find a trolley of some sort. When we toured on motorbikes we used a little trolley to carry the panniers on from my and my husband's bikes.
I found this on an American site :

Now I have to say that I am not sure how safe this would be, but if you could find a trolley for the luggage with a child seat then this may help.

Edited to say that the link does not seem to work. Try googling luggage trolley with child seat and you should see the images I am trying to link to.0 -
Hmm, just found out that park not far from us is charging £655 for 4 nts in a caravan. I could do three Haven hols with that price!
The nearest Haven park is Golden Sands, approx. 2 hr 20 min away by car. A lot less than 3 hours though! Its either find a taxi/car to take us there and back, dog stays with us.
OR- We go to the Sea Shore one (better transport links) by Nat Express, leave dog in boarding for a week.
OR- Decide to stay in the same city for several years and just have trips out. Scuppered by the fact that I love my dog too much and would probably get another.Up and onwards to the future!

Have you considered using a luggage delivery service? i.e. Send it on ahead (and reverse at end of break). This would just leave you with the toddler and dog on public transport.0

The luggage isn't really an issue, if I take small holder and pack light-ish. I'd still need pushchair for child with all his bits, to manage him and the dog. I've taken my son, pushchair and luggage on a fair trip before (6 hours) by train which was so stressful as he won't sit still and wants to explore, which is tough to do when you've also got the dog whining and trying not to be stepped on.Up and onwards to the future!
