Car went in for repair, but fault is still there!
My car went in to our local garage because it was making a strange noise and they replaced, I think it is the alternator belt and two tension pulley things, which cost in total just under £200.
However, the problem is still there and it is making exactly the same noise.
I went back there this morning, but the main guy is away on holiday until next week.
Where do I stand with this? I don't want them to have the car back and charge me again.
Feeling well peed off:(

These things happen. Probably the primer pump for the missiles and machine guns. All secret spy cars have them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Take it back so he can explain why it is still making the noise.
Possibly the new belt just needs re-tensioning now it has been run.
Or they might spray a bit of belt dressing on it to quieten it down.
Or it might have been nothing to do with the belt.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Op, what this poster means is what car do you have?
What this poster clearly doesn't see is your post is more along the lines of what consumer rights do I have rather than what's wrong with my car0 -
Maybe the tensioners were faulty and replaced. The noise maybe another unrelated issue.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Sorry, meant to say it is a 2004 Ford Ka and it has only done 42,000 miles from new:(
They actually replaced the tensioner pulley, idler pulley and belt, all to no avail!Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Will have to go back, but simply hate it:( Why can't garages just fix the problem? Do they just work their through various things that it could be and keep charging for each?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Unfortunately a fitter worked on this instead of a mechanic, the latter would have removed the drive belt and run the engine to confirm diagnosis.
The good mechanic is an elusive increasingly rare breed, if you manage to find one treat him well, he will save you £££ over the years.0 -

I know, my OH says there are very few mechanics around now because new cars don't require their expertise; just a fitter to put new parts in and charge the earth:(Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
The Crank pulleys have a damper on, they wear and cause the pulley to vibrate and the noise transfers to the belts and eventually wears the tensioner.
The timing belt has to come off, a new crank pulley and any worn parts replaced.Be happy...;)0 -
Did they check the water pump for worn bearings?0
