No wonder they are so keen to find someone to buy the lot in one go, but have not been able to find anyone after several years touting their houses round the media. Imagine what would happen to Ashford prices if they dumped them individually on the open market.

How do you know they're not already selling houses individuality?

There must be plenty of other lettings businesses with similar sized portfolios whose owners don't spend so much time courting publicity. It strikes me that most articles about the Wilsons are heavy on 'personality' and light on detail. They're Kent's answer to the Kardashians.

Pretty much every part of the country is more expensive than where I live.

HPI doesn't really help someone living in a cheap part of the country looking to move to a bigger place in a more expensive part. Also, being a permabear I purchased a place I could easily afford so the next step up has the potential to cause a groin injury.

At least the problem hasn't been compounded by renting for the last 20 years.

What problem would that be then?

Just did a Rightmove search for 2 and 3 bed houses in Ashford up to £200,000. There are 111 results, or 244 if sold STC results included. There are also many thousands more new builds in the pipeline.

They remind me of the stubborn seller who thinks his house is worth X, and keeps it unsold on the market for years hoping to get a totally unrealistic price.

I think these clowns need a certain price to pay their bank debts off, even worse situation.

Errr. Bigger houses in expensive parts of the country cost more than smaller houses in cheaper parts of the country.

Not an insurmountable problem mind because I haven't spent the last 20 years renting so own most of my house and have saved significantly on accommodation costs along the way.

Any more clever questions to divert attention away from your folly?

If house prices were 50% cheaper in 5 years I'd be as happy as that chap Larry. Assuming I wasn't adversely affected by the economic events causing such dramatic falls I'd be on the road to a (very) early retirement too.

A working lifetime spending substantially less by owning rather than renting and then picking up a bigger place in a nicer area for 50% off. Brilliant.

It's nice to dream but important to recognise the difference between sleepy time and awake time.

EDIT: I'm going out for a few drinks with some friends right now, so I probably will not be online for quite a while, so merry Xmas everyone.

What is the reason for wanting to move to another part of the country? Apologies if you have already said so (I haven't read all of the thread)

Do you think Fergie will manage to cash in his "equity" before you get back?

No, but I think he is sitting on an almighty amount of equity, not to mention massive rental profits, so I don't think that you need to worry about the Wilsons.

Why are they in court haggling over council tax if that is the case?

Well I know nothing about the details of that, but it doesn't matter how much money you have (or don't have) if you believe something is wrong, then you stand up for yourself and fight your corner.

My point is why would someone of his age who is supposedly a multi-millionaire want to be bothered with things like challenging a council department over council tax for one of his empty properties? Why isn`t he sitting in the South of France sunning himself? IMO it is because he can`t sell his properties, never will at the price he needs, and is worth zero after the banks take what he owes them.
