The law appears to be that if you break a cistern lid and then have to replace the entire bathroom as a result.

    No, the tenant won.
  • Was Fergus a bit hasty in evicting all his HB tenants? Taken from national Housing Federation website:

Universal Credit direct payment arrears trigger announced

Lord Freud has announced of how the arrears trigger will work under Universal Credit

    27 June 2013
The Federation welcomes this announcement as we have long argued for an arrears trigger that will provide an important safeguard for tenants and landlords.
The key points of the trigger are as follows:
    • Decisions about whether tenants should receive direct payments will be made in collaboration with social landlords
    • If arrears build up to the equivalent of 1 month’s rent the decision to make direct payments will be reviewed
    • If arrears reach the equivalent of 2 months rent, the claimant will have housing payments switched to the landlord, or managed payments
Read the full announcement on the Department for Work and Pensions website.
We need to see further details and ensure that any further learning from demonstration projects and Universal Credit pathfinder are incorporated into design of the system.

An estate agent getting punched and Mr Wilson being fined for it. It's perfect.

Shame it didn't turn into more of a brawl with them doing some damage to each other.

For me the puzzle is why does a man who is worth so many millions act so violently over a simple boiler repair? He should be enjoying the little time that he has left and making the most of the wonderful financial position that he is in, not wasting his time by manufacturing disputes over things that are insignificant. He must have some serious 'issues'.

He's just a very odd character. He used to have a stable of three legged horses, and was hated by the Racing fraternity. He could have afforded to run a string of class A, but not Fergus.
Fergus Wilson, horseracing's very own village idiot, is planning to run yet another million-to-one betting no-hoper in the Epsom Derby on June 7, 2008.

The Kent-based 'millionaire' has built a reputation for running horses with no chance in the betting in big races, most notably with million-to-one chances in the Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. This year he has a useless hurdler called Maidstone Mixture being targeted for the Epsom Derby, for which the horse is 500-1 in the betting but ought to be a billion-to-one.

I have to admit I find this quite endearing...

There was a time when rent for people on benefits was paid directly to their landlord. That way they couldn't blow it all on something else and end up in arrears. But the do-gooders and leftie busybodies got that changed because it was deemed to be too undignified for the recipients. As a result we have a situation like this. And yet such idiots still get listened to in this country -- big time.
