CPW poor

Went in to CPW to buy a phone that is advertised as £39.95 + £10 top up, underneath it says £39.95 only as pay as you go upgrade so asked what this was and if your already on pay as you go you don't need to buy the top up but they seemed like they didn't want to sell it like that. so gave them my mums number and was told that that number was inactive (not true) gave them my dads told not in service (not true) so i know for a fact that at my work there are numerous phones/devices with pay as you go sims in them that are used daily and topped up regular but told non of these are being accepted buy their system as valid and that i need to buy the top up, well i didn't because to me their trying to pull a fast one. Anyone else had issues like this.

I would have thought the existing PAYG would have to be registered in your name wouldn't it?

You've either hugely misunderstood or are embellishing.

The process you describe (just giving a number) is incorrect when in a store. They want to see the SIM, they enter the the SIM number and your details. Their system then contacts your service provider to check if a pay and go upgrade is valid. When I did it recently ,they told me they only get a yes or no.

Incidentally , did you really think you would be able to use another person's details?

Just to give my experience and reinforce what has been said above.
I wished to buy my daughter a new phone for birthday and chose the Huawei Y300 PAYG upgrade from CPW at £39.95 (same as OP?).

So went into CPW store yesterday and asked if I could upgrade by just giving the phone number and SIM serial number. They said no, must see the SIM card.

So then went onto the website where the validity of the upgrade can be checked just by giving phone number and SIM serial number. Result was Ok so went ahead and ordered, free next working day delivery, coming Monday.
Obviously I had to see the SIM card from my daughters phone.

So OP just get the serial number from one of the SIMs and you should be OK to order online.

  • I can assure you all that i didn't misunderstand and i am certainly not embellishing. The store is in Ashton-under-lyne they did not ask for a sim number. All that was asked of myself was to provide them with a phone number, which i did. I asked if it had to be mine and they said 'NO' it can be you or a close family member if your buying it for them.
