Shops + stores which provide Free Wifi Wireless broadband ? (like USA? )

A cousin from USA was saying that most places in USA provide free wireless broadband for people to use with their laptops and mobiles.

But does the uk provide broadband in the main shops? stores? (wifi)
or are we just slowly catching up lol.

Where do you go to use wireless broadband if you are not at your home ?

I am asking about a wireless laptop by the way.

I think you'll find many larger stores provide it, but may not make it very obvious. In the last couple of weeks I've used John Lewis and Tesco, and I know shopping centres such as Westfield also provide it. Just turn your device's wifi on and see what comes up that is not secured - it'll usually have a relatively obvious name.

I know that EE claims to allow it's customers free access via 5million BT Wifi hotspots but this is a lie (BT deny this) !!

The only access points that EE customers can use are BT FON points - of which there are a maximum of 500,000 FON points - the rest are home users who's access points are (obviously) unavailable !!
There are but 3 FON points within 5 miles of my home - so not exactly widely available..

That's rubbish!

They can connect to BTOpenzone as well as FON and BT Wi-Fi

BT broadband customers used to have to opt in to share a Wi-Fi hotspot but since early 2009 any new customers were automatically opted in with the option to opt out if they wanted.
