Just wondering what does everyone think is better planning food monthly or planning weekly I am unsure what the best way is to do it. Hubby gets paid Monthly so money wise it would be fine to do it monthly and I am thinking this might mean less is wasted. However do people who plan monthly get bored of what they are eating knowing so far ahead? and to the people who do food plan monthly do you write what you will be eating every day for a month or do you have a list of meals that you can make during that month?

I print out a blank monthly plan and then normally fill in three weeks worth. My 5 year old likes helping with this! My fourth week I normally fill in nearer the time and is normally stuff I have picked up on offer earlier in the month or if we change anything earlier in the month I can move it to the final week! Hope that makes sense!

So I went to aldi with my list and a few extra that I was reminded of when I went round. My aim was to spend £40 so I could use my £5 voucher. I was adding it up as I went round and it came to £41. Very pleased! But then I had forgotten I had a couple of vouchers, which brought it down to 39.50. The woman didn't say anything but just ignored the voucher! When I asked she pointed out that I hadn't spent £40!! Why she couldn't have just said this in the first place! So I grabbed a couple f packets of ibruprofen which were next to the till! £40.11 so £35.11 with the voucher!

I will just need to get milk and bread from farmfoods next week.
A great start to the month and that included two packets of nappies that I didn't need for a few weeks!

Leeks were on offer so I am going to make the slow cooker potato (I have a sack and a half!) and leek soup off this thread. So that will be lunches sorted for next week!

    Spent £82 today.
I include all cleaning stuff and 'personal' too.
Hoping to not spend so much next week as some of the stuff -like dishwasher tablets will last at least 3 weeks. :)

Have you tried snapping them in half! I read on a thread about it and started doing it about three weeks ago. I have noticed no difference in the cleaning and they last twice as long!

I've decided I need to join this - and have set myself a budget of 240 for the month - that's me and 2 bottomless pits/ hollow legs of teenage sons ...

have just done the trawl around Aldi for this week and spent the grand total of 55.31 - only thing I should need this week on top of that is milk from the corner shop at £1 a time..

    menu plan is

Saturday - bacon wrapped chicken (had bacon in), garlic potatoes, veggies (all were in stock)
sunday - pork joint/ roast spuds/ vegs / gravy - had it all in stock
Monday - prawn stir fry with rice, had to buy prawns and some noodles
Tuesday - spag bol (bought the mince just)
Wednesday - scampi/ chips and peas (all from stock)
Thursday - grill up (had to buy some bacon)
Friday - sausage casserole (all from stock)

lunches are left overs/ sandwiches etc. loads of cleaning stuff in the house so all ok there... just hope sons don't inhale the contents of the fridge in one go on Monday when im at work....

    Hi everyone

The car cost £478 and that was with a bit of money off. Shock Horror!!

This included MOT, Interim service, Cambelt change and spring. It is a good garage but such a lot of money. So I'm hoping to spend less this month.

Did a few little shops today and had vouchers for Mr T's. The local greengrocer had some bargains and our local butcher. Never think to go there as usually end up in the supermarket.

Anyway, will make some soup for this weeks lunches - Roasted butternut squash and red pepper. Tonight will have kidneys in red wine, a la Delia Smith.

Keep going everyone - it is lovely and sunny here today!

    Hi everyone,

    Budgets updated to here :)

    Welcome to:
Mama10, Frizzle, deejayp, Timetogrowup, WhiteSnowdrop and catandy :D

I am joining you all officially as its 1st March :j

Spent £25.19 in Tesco yesterday on food for dinner, fruit and veg, milk - really feel ripped off everytime I go in there  Only one large trolley left too which had rubbish in it :(

To Aldi this morning for the bulk of our shopping. Spent £72.92 after the £5 voucher and a 50% off focaccia voucher.

    Mealplan for this week:
    Tonight - raclette night
Sunday - HM shepherds pie, broccoli, beans, apple crumble
Monday - Ham and cheese flans (aldi) with salad and coleslaw
Tuesday - Chicken curry, rice, naan bread
    Wednesday - Mexicana mince, rice
Thursday - HM Chicken pie with puff pasty top, mash, peas and sweetcorn
Friday - Pasta bake, focaccia bread

Not a very exciting list, but Aldi was so busy, that I just grabbed two beef mince, one lamb mince and a large pack of chicken. Don't really want to do a top up shop for meat during the week if at all possible.

    Have a great evening all

Thanks for the reminder JIL will send hubby round to lidl (it's a 2 min walk away!) at 8 for the mince!

    You are welcome.

He went at 8.15am, he says it was and always is full of men, like him sent by their OH who just go in buy the offers and leave as quickly as the came in.
I got up just after 9am and the mince is in the freezer and the receipt on the laptop. :rotfl:

Huge Morris shop as it was week 4 of their deal. Spent £69 and got £89 of groceries.
As we didn't need nearly £89 worth of goods I looked for offers on staples we use each day/week and the offers were perfect for us...
*x2 50 load HUGE box of Persil non bio for £4.99 (I love this fragrance and it doesn't upset my hubby or son's sensititve skin...it's usually £10.50 ish when I can't catch it on offer, and with a little one on the way I know it'll be useful!)
*x3 Half price large chickens (£2.40-£3 each)
*X3 1/2 price family size pork mince (£1.50 each) - each feeds us twice.
*x3 1/2 price 3 packs of pork chops (£2 each)
    *jams, flours, tinned toms etc.
Got enough meat to last us for 3+ weeks (great as it's a 5 weekend month!) and our pantry is bursting ready for our little arrival and maternity leave. :)

    More good news too...
By not shopping at Mr T's for a few months they've sent me £30 off my next 3 £40+ shops. So that's our next 3 weeks groceries sorted with £10 off each time. :)

    Happy Saturday!
