  • Another NSD for us today.
Went to the forest again and brought the last of the wood home for winter. It feels so good to finish such a big project.

OH now has time to do some maintenance on the boat before the weekend when I think the great tuna hunt will be on. We only have a couple of days a year to lay in supplies of this wonderful fish until the next migratory season, so have to m ake the most of it. Should be an exciting, but exhausting time
    Cheers

  • Planning a NSD as I have work then an appointment. Only planning to spend on a treat of a take away coffee which will come off a gift card I got given for Christmas 2012 (! Can't believe there is still money left on there)

Just realised M's was on Halifax cash back last week and I only had one small spend i. There so earned a whole...39p would have got more in there as there is stuff we get from there which we will need if I had realised!

I've spent £60 / £300 so far on last week's shop; got loads of fruit and vegetables. I'll probably spend £10 tomorrow on a top up shop but I'm quietly optimistic that I can bring this month's food shop under budget :D

  • NSD today and yesterday. Used the chicken from Sunday lunch and took all the meat off and used around half shredded in a stir fry (was much tastier than chopped chicken - and softer so will definitely do this again), dd had some on a sandwich and the otter half of chicken is going into pasta bake and the bones are in the slow cooker making stock.
May need to get some more milk later in the week but that should be it so I am pleased with hitting NSD targets I just need to keep going and sticking to the plan.

I have some frozen sardines in the freezer to make marinated sardines (a recipe we had in venice with pine nuts and raisins so I will have to get round to making this) I also have a big pack of smoked salmon in the freezer but I thin its been in there for about 2 years - will it still be edible? Any suggestions what I could cook with it?

Total spend for the month so far is £50.76/£100 but I've got all my meals sorted up until the 17th. So I'm on track :)

About to make a big batch of carrot and coriander soup... Yum!

Just had a bit of a inventory/clear out of the fridge ...

Was a little too generous with my veg shopping at the start of the month .. Half bag of kale & some green beans looking worried!

Blanched and froze said, worried veg .. Even if i use them with tomoz's pie, better in the chilly place for now .. If a day is a long time in politics .. imagine being a green bean!

Portioned yesterdays 'skinny' roast turkey .. Was only a small crown, but managed to get 3 good portions out of what was left, plus a box of lovely skin for the doggies .. Two portions for this month, plus one carried forward to Springy March .. Hoorah!

Had few bits left from the Chinese NY Bash plus a big jug of weak stock, as i'd pre-cooked part of my chicken in it .. Made a pot of soup ...

    2l chicken stock
    3 gi-normous Value Carrots
    1 broccoli stalk
1 handful green spring onion 'tails'
    1 big Potato
    Little bit of Cooking Bacon
    Frozen thyme
    S & P

... just need to wait til it's cool and will blend-a-go-go .. Can make into Mulagatawny (sic) with a little curry paste .. or add some extra veg or 'leaves' to make it more exciting

Lastly ... poked around in the 'salad drawer' .. Chopped and froze the last of the Spring Onions before they went bendy .. Rescued a suspect piece of ginger .. chopped off the scary bits and froze the rest ... Will have to make space for some tikka-making in the meal plan next month

Sorry I'm late! I've been away unexpectedly for about a month - my sister had surgery, and I've been over to help her recover and help with the kids. She called me on a Thursday and I was there by the Sunday - there's an ocean between us but it's nothing really!!

It's been a very expensive month as flights were pricey, but I don't think I can do less than £120 for the month, and we've spent almost £60 on this already. I've been ill, and haven't eaten a full meal since my return on Thursday which has helped a little.

Never go shopping when you're feeling down or unnecessary treats will leap into your trolley when you are not looking. How did I end up with three boxes of ice cream in February? Oh well, the damage wasn't as bad as it could have been and I did get Pop Tarts - have wanted to try these since I was a child reading Archie comics so couldn't resist when I spotted them.

£36.72 on groceries and £22 on nappies, wipes and reduced pair of jeans for LO. The LO stuff is from a different budget though so 'only' £36.72 added to total. Might need milk on weekend but otherwise should be okay for a while. Plus, my hero OH has made a big pie and two jacket potatoes so I'll be ok for lunch for two weeks.
