Just a quick note on here to say I'm going to finish off with my Jan budget and then jump straight to March :)

Anyone else get paid in the middle of the month?

It's getting very lonely on the Jan thread :o

    :rotfl:

Keep up the good work everyone, it's great to read your posts!

We get paid on the 15th and hubby on the 22nd so decided to make mine calendar months. Normally end up with two really tight weeks and two slightly better weeks and rarely spend what I'd like too. Also end up robbing another account to make up the shortfall so fingers crossed that from now on I can stick to plan.

    Hi All,

I too have had no problems with reduced chicken, but on a very rare occasion I have had pork mince and beef joint that were definitely on the turn. I have to admit, I didn't ask for a refund or complain. Just smelt it and binned it.
This has been rare enough that I remember exactly the 2 occasions of off meat.

NSD (gc) yesterday. A very big spend on some bits for my wedding though.

Dinner last night was HM chicken kievs with boiled potatoes, peas and cajun mayonnaise.

The chicken breasts were so large, I had to put them in the oven for an extra 1/2 hour over the usual.

Costco coupon book has come out - doesn't seem like anything so far, but will take a closer look at some of the items and compare to the SM.

    Hi,

I have always been afraid to buy YS chicken. I have often bought well in date chicken which, when opened, stinks and felt perfectly within my rights to return it to the shop and get my money back. However, if I buy chicken that has a use-by date for today and is reduced price, can I still go back and demand my money back? I'm pretty sure I can't take it back to the shop the following day which would be more convenient because the chicken would then be past its use by date.

I guess the question is - How likely is it that when you buy reduced price chicken it smells? Because I'd love to buy a whole chicken for £1.48!

I usually buy reduced chicken but they never have whole chickens.
I buy breasts/diced breast fairly often and freeze it on the day or use it and never been off.
You can usually see if chicken is off by the colour, it goes grey when it's past it's best usually.

  • Thanks for the responses re gone off chicken. Maybe I'll give YS chicken a go so. I too, would always use or freeze chicken on the day I purchase it though.

However, it's always worth returning gone off food to the store. A few months ago I bought 2 large chickens in Sainsburys - £6 each or 2 for £10. One of them was off so I dumped the chicken but returned the receipt and packaging to the store the following day. Not only did they replace my chicken, they also gave me a gift card for the value of the chicken - £6, even though it actually only cost me £5. So I ended up getting 2 large chickens for £4!

  • Hi all

Been and done my weekly shop today. Mainly because I was in town n ad the time! Updated my sig. This weeks spend was £66.49. This was after using some coupons in Tesco! Got some extra kitten biscuits. (Normally £5 something a bag got 2 for £6) also gold coffee was £6 something and it's £4 at mo! So grabbed 2.

I was expecting to have my new oven yesterday but nobody at Argos or the supplier thought to tell me it's still out of stock! I waited in all bloody day. Cross and disappointed. I have got various gadgets to use but love me baking. Will ave to go looking in the electrical stores at weekend as they now saying 20 February ish!!

I'll be down for some stewing steak

OH was in a store on Tuesday. Says it's normally £8.49/kg, comes in 1.2-1.5kg packs, and is very, very lean. So if I plan to pick up a pack of around 1.3kg (the smaller the better due it being £2/pack off rather than a per kg reduction) it works out at £6.96/kg.

Mr T's value stewing beef is showing on their site at £6.29/kg (so not much cheaper, and I've always had a fair bit of waste from it), and they've nothing else under £10/kg under the stewing/casserole beef section of the website.
