  • Hello!!

My payday is 28th Jan. So mine will run 28th Jan-28th Feb. I didn't put that in my other post.

So far I have spent £22.33.

£3.99 on bits to do a chinese tonight :), far cheaper than a take-away.

I have done a meal plan for the month, so hopefully I'll be under £100. I need to get a sack of potatoes from the market. These are £7 but last normally around 2 months. They are REALLY nice.

I need to go to Mr T's or Lidl tomorrow for pack lunch bits for my DD.

    Total [STRIKE]7036.54[/STRIKE] 5076.92  !!!
  • Right. Time to update my spends for the week:

Tuesday - general shop for fresh fruit & veg & bread = £23.02
Wednesday - apple pies (naughty) on way home = £1.50
Thursday - frozen veg, baked beans (on offer) = £6.29

So my total is £30.81. Halfway thru budget already but should not now need buy anything else for a while.
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.

Hi dogmom, click on the userCP tab at the top and then down the left hand side you'll get a list of options one of them is edit sig, click on that and then your sig will come up. you edit it in the bottom box and when you click update your new sig should appear in the top box and from then on under your posts till you change it again. thats if ive explained it correctly.

Thanks Mrs Moneypenny - this is really helpful.

  • Shopping tonight came to £29.15. That included 4 packs of digestives for my mum but she's giving me 4 tins of mushy peas and a pack of desiccated coconut she has in cupboard and won't use so I think we'll just call it quits.

I shouldn't now have to buy any more meat or fish for rest of month, so just f & v and the odd store cupboard top up. Will do a meal plan over weekend.

I find the lower fat the milk the more suitable it is for freezing, so a definite yes to skimmed, an OK for semi, and a 'the kids wouldn't drink it neat after defrosting' for full-fat.

You also need to be careful about expansion if buying in plastic containers, and it's definitely best frozen standing upright. I actually reckon there's more expansion room for the volume of milk by buying smaller containers instead of larger, but that makes the milk dearer in the first place :(

Another option would be to try switching to long-life.

Unfortunately, we're a full-fat household because of the LO. I can't stand milk upright in my little fridge-top freezer unless I bought 1 pt bottles. Oh well, just going to have to see how it goes keeping it in the fridge.

Could you buy 1 pints to give you the containers and then pour larger containers into the small ones to freeze?

  • I would like to join in for February. I will start from tomorrow to 28th Feb. I have to be very careful this month as I've had quite a few unexpected bills so I need to claw back as much as possible from my shopping bill. I normally budget £60 per week (although I think I probably go over this), but I would like to go for £50 per week (£200 for the month).

Ideally, I need to be under this, so, along with tracking my spending, I'm hoping this challenge will give me the focus to achieve this.
