  • Thanks for the info Bluemoo we try and get as many YS stuff as possible but our place is terrible for only knocking off 10p here or there and I'm a true believer in not buying it for the sake of it and only if it works into my plan somewhere! It also dosn't help that we really only have a Tesco and a M&S, we do have a "local" store but whenever I do my shop in there its twice the price and I can never find what I need!

Getting paid tomorrow so will be doing my first shop on Saturday really thinking of doing a "monthly" shop and then just topping up with fruit/veg when I need to. Our milk comes via the milkman so thankfully don't need to worry about that.

Does anyone here do a "monthly" meal plan instead of a weekly? Currently trying to lose weight so have just done a rolling two weeks for this month so hoping we dont get bored ect!

I rough plan a months worth of meals then flex them throughout the month; deciding each week what we will roughly eat and when. I find that best in terms of not getting bored etc

I work to a fortnightly/10 days meal plan - I try to only go shopping every 9/10 days. I have a corner shop for bread/milk which is on the walk too and from pre-school so it's handy for a small top up but that's all I'm allowed. My husbands schedule changes so much that I find it difficult to plan too far ahead. I batch cook though, so there's always 2/3 nights worth of food in the freezer ready to be re-heated as and when. At the moment I have a portion of stew for 3(enough for 2 +2 small mouths) which just needs mash putting with it, and a batch of Chilli which needs rice or making into a texan pie. Tonight's dinner is cottage pie with cabbage/peas (haven't decided yet lol) and I'll have enough filling left over for 4 pasties I think - 4 lunches for hubby.

We are currently following the 'Hairy Dieter's' plan. hubby needs to lose just over a stone to be at his target weight. and I love it as it means I get veggies without having to fight him! :T I love veggies! lol

    Friday - sausage and mash
Sat - haggis neeps and tatties since its Burns night
Sun - Chicken fillet with garlic butter wrapped in pancetta ham with roast tatties and veg

A large spend today of £42.68. Most of this was on cupboard staples that have been ran down over the last 2 months and a lot of fruit and veg.

I will update my signature now.

Although it isn't payday until today I did my main shop yesterday and spent £48.94. A good start as I've allowed about £50 a week.

    Today will be a NSD.

    I have updated my signature.

ETA: With my YS stuff, I ten to also just get 25% off, or 50% off. But it is still worth it on high value items. Not worth it if it's stuff you won't use - I have learnt this the hard way!
