PCOS is often treated with Glucophage aka metformin hydrochloride. I have it for Type II diabetes and one of the possile side effects listed is rhinitis (nasal drip).
I've tried Lactofree as marginally less carby than other milk and it tastes fine but is more expensive than organic !0 -

I was on Metformin years ago but made my tum even worse! The doc won't even prescribe now. I sometimes just feel like I'd be better going to see a vet!:D
I liked the lactofree as well - somehow tasted cleaner but yes, majorly expensive compared with normal.0 -
Metformin is heart protective, an appetite suppressant and studies are finding that a side benefit for long term users is less risk of breast cancer.
Nope Metformin definitely not stomach friendly though for sure. Don't want to be graphic here but missing a dose or being really late taking it can be disastrous !!0 -

I am very overweight and need to get rid of some but find it so difficult to eat the healthy stuff because of the pain it causes! So I end up eating crap that is fine short term but obviously offers no real nourishment.
I sympathise with you, my symptoms overall are rather mild, frequent discomfort, only occasional bad pain.
The problem is that some foods cause bloated tommy because of GERD, but I also I have problems with IBS type symptoms (often have to run to the loo with cramps in the morning), and on top of that many foods give me an insulin response (e.g. porridge, most fruit including apples, rice).
The list of foods that are 'safe' is limited, but I'm lucky because if I eat the 'wrong' foods I don't get very ill.
I'm doing DF first because it's easier, and because I have skin allergy symptoms (which have practically gone since using eco balls instead of ecover). FODMAP and/or GERD might be what I need to do in the end.
If you can't do DF because of the overall problems with food,
I think you really need to find out what foods are 'safe' for you to eat. FODMAP is a good place to start at least to help you pick the vegetables that are less likely to trigger IBS.0 -

Forgot to mention that whole grains (brown bread/rice, wholewheat flour etc) can cause problems if you have IBS, so a 'clean' diet may not be suitable for you0

Just to tell you that some crisps are not dairy free!!!!!!!! Came as a surprise to me, and the amount must be minimal but a packet I have here (salt & vinegar)says in the list: "lactose (from milk)! ........so crisps need sugar!. I think you are fine with plain ones.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Hi
I've been following this thread & had some useful info from Jenniewb. I initially cut out lactose, so had Lactofree milk and cheese but my stomach problems continued. So I have bitten the bullet and for the past 2 days have had no dairy at all. I have tried Alpro Almond milk which I find ok in hot drinks but I wouldn't choose to drink it by itself, so I'm still going with that. In the mornings I have cereal with a dairy free yoghurt mixed in, current favourite is Tesco Free From Mango. For lunch today I had a peanut butter sandwich, and I'm trying to eat more fruit to replace the choccie biscuits !
I know it's only been a couple of days but I noticed today I didn't have any stomach problems at all. So I am feeling hopeful that this will continue. But I am missing cheese :-(

Hi
But I am missing cheese :-(

You could try soya cheese- Tesco have got it in their "Free from " range...however it is not really cheese, even the strong one! Have bought it a couple of times but it's slightly on the sweet side.
I too miss cheese but do live without it!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Yes I saw that soya cheese substitute in Tesco, but I wasn't sure about it so I left it. I don't know if I'd just rather give cheese up for now :-/
I was a huge cheese eater so guess it's not going to do any harm to have a break from it.
I did find dairy free chocolate buttons which are quite nice. Not cadburys but met the urge !0
