Taking guitar on flight to Spain...

Does anyone have experience of this? I want to go to Malaga (probably) and take a full size acoustic guitar in a hard case - but obviously I want to have it in the cabin with me.Which airlines are most likely to be helpful in this regard? Or at least won't charge a silly amount!
Cheers!

The airlines are used to it - you need to buy it a seat
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

I let my Bass go into the hold, as the hard case is a sturdy one with good inner protection. But you may feel that your acoustic is more sensitive.
  • Probably easyJet or BA will be the most helpful to you. Or Thomson, worth a try, I think they'll let people take wedding dresses in with them.

My son has taken his acoustic guitar to Europe many times, Canada and Mexico and it always goes in the over sized luggage bit. If you want it on the plane then you buy it a ticket.
He has a hard travel case for it and it's been fine, although between Canada and Mexico it went via Hawaii but it did arrive 2 days later.
Look on ebay for travel / flight cases for it, they aren't that expensive and may be a good long term investment for you.

BA will let you take a guitar as hand luggage, at no extra cost. (even if over normal max size)
Check this is still current, but I did it a couple of years back.

Forget the cheap airlines, they'll charge an arm and a leg

Quote from link below: guitars which may be brought on board only if they can be safely stowed in an overhead bin or approved stowage location in the cabin.

A full or 3/4 size doesn't fit, would be OK with child size one, but unlikely with a case and without one the guitar would get damaged by other sparseness bags.
