moments_of_sanity wrote: »Hi icontinuetodream, I have attached a link (which I hope works) which explains what you need to do but basically, you cut the end of the bottle off, leaving the lid on the bottle, fill with soil which you push down tight (otherwise it shrinks over time) and then plant your parsnips it it. We did 8 last year as a test and they were so easy and really tasty that I am going to try to do about 50 odd this year:D

I looked on all the links on the threads too....that vertical bottle garden looks absolutely brilliant!!!!I think I may do a couple for annual herbs and salad leaves.....I may also do some flower ones too to cover the fence between us and the neighbour :j

Was actually able to spend a short time out in the garden this morning. Cleared some of the patio, found that some pots of thyme and mint from last year have survived really well!
Totally cleared an old very dead Jasmine from some trellis. Left the dead wood in a pile under the hedge for the wildlife to play with. There were a few bugs in it which I am sure my blackbird will enjoy!
Desperately need more space, would be brilliant to be self sufficient in veggies. Even though I bought ten enormous deep tubs and a dozen potato/veg grow sacks, I am already needing more.
From everything I am reading, it's the depth of a container which matters most when container growing veg...? Advice any one please.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Stuck a couple of broad beans in a tub and had a quick look at the garden.
Raspberry canes are putting out new leaves, buds on the cherry tree and garlic looking very happy. A few more dry days should see the mud not sticking to my boots.
And you'd think after all these years I'd know that if you keep looking at seeds morning and night, it doesn't make them sprout any quicker!0 -

Oh my I'm so excited I've just been into the "garden" and I have my first little seedling finally making an appearance
I know it's silly but I'm so excited this is the first thing that has ever actually grown so fingers crossed I don't kill it now
LOL, it's not in the least bit silly. You should see me every morning checking on the "kids" to see who has grown. I am like an idiot! :rotfl:
My lettuces, radishes, onion and coriandor have all started showing little shoots, i am talking to them - hubby says do i want to read them a bedtime story.:rotfl:
I also sprinkled some cress sedds onto a napkin this morning - isnt growing stuff wonderful :TSaving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

well its dried up a bir here...or stopped raining at least.
Over the past week or so ive been trying to keep ahead of myself.
So far i have transplanted a few things (2 raspberries, a Japanese Wineberry, a couple of currant bushes & a gooseberry bush), ive also sown my leeks (mamoth & Autumn), onions (red), tomatoes (black cherry) mixed salad leaves & a couple of others in planters.
ive also planted a few sweet peas, holy hock, foxglove * a variety of plants for the front garden.
This coming week im looking to get my potatoes (that have been chitting nicely) in the 10 litre bags that i bought (after reading about T&Ms trials).
its definitely getting going....im really looking forward to this season.0 -
I've done nothing yet. If the weather holds I might do some digging over this weekend, but I think it's too early to plant anything up here in rainy Yorkshire.
I am, however, bribing a friend with gin to plan the veg growing for me. I reckon if she comes up with what I should be doing, where and when, then I'm in with a chance.0 -
Looks like the start of another crazy growing period, just spotted flowers open on our blackberry bush."We could say the government spends like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money."
