Care home top up fees - worried about the cost

    Thanks again all who have posted. I've had a very interesting conversation with IndependentAge.org this morning and they've told me much the same that you have here: we are not liable to top up fees.

    I am sorely disappointed with Age Concern for perpetuating this myth.

    I'm also fuming with the Social Worker whom I need to speak to this afternoon.

    Just having a cuppa, making a few notes to clear my head and trying to be calm and rational when I phone her. Wish me luck!!

    Thanks for the update Joolz and good luck. Proof that knowledge is power and the authorities rely on us little people not knowing how it should work.

    It was one person gave you bad advice. AgeUK's own leaflets explain the facts. Whoever you spoke you needs retraining.
  • This myth is rife when the person going into a home has Alzheimer's, and I feel so sorry for people who haven't asked for confirmation on boards such as this one.
