    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your email.

I’ve checked your usage in the last bill and can see that the charge of £138.82 has been applied for data roaming. The total data used (including the roaming usage) is 2418.15 MB.

On checking the details, it seems that your handset may have switched to a roaming network due to which you’ve incurred the charges. As a one-time exception, we will waive these charges considering that you may have used it in error.

If we consider your complete usage from your allowance, then your total data usage has exceeded your inclusive allowance (2GB) by 370.15 MB. When your data usage is exceeded, then a charge of £6 (inc. VAT) is applied for each additional 250MB. This was not applied in your bill as part of your usage was considered as roaming.

So I’ve applied a credit of £126.82 (credit of £138.82 for roaming – charge of £12 for exceeding data) to your account. This has been adjusted with the overdue amount on your account.

The remaining amount of £78.89 is now due to be paid. You can call us on 191 (between 8AM – 8PM) to make the payment. I can see that your Direct Debit has been cancelled, so you can also speak with an advisor on 191 to set it up again.

In addition, we also recommend you to keep a track of the network you’re using whenever you’re around the borders of UK and check that your number is connected to Vodafone UK network. This will ensure that you may avoid such charges in future.

    I trust this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Aftab Alam

    No help, but relative:

Same thing happens on Anglesey when you get switched to an Irish network if you don't take care.
  • The best way to avoid this problem is to switch your phone's network selection from automatic to manual and pick your home network from the list shown on the phone, and then save the changes.
The exception to this is with Orange/T Mobile (while in the UK) where the auto setting is needed to swap from one transmitter to another to retain coverage on the EE Network.

I was not made aware of this at any point, if they told me to ignore it, surely im not liable to pay?

They have no reason to tell you explicitly, along with other factors that will cost you money, anyone over 18 is expected to do their own research.

When did they tell you to 'ignore' roaming? At least they made you a goodwill gesture rather than saying tough - BUT if you do not require roaming switch it off until you do!
