Personally I loathe Apple and all their products, but my daughter was given an iPod nano 7th Gen and uses it via iTunes on her laptop.
All has been well until she updated to the latest version of iTunes two days ago. She has a Dell Inspiron N5110 running Windows 7 which has been fully updated. Since the iTunes update the program will not recognise the iPod. Windows can see it and stuff can be transferred, but iTunes, no. We don't, at the moment, have another Apple device to try.
I've followed the advice on their support sites, uninstalled iTunes and all its components such as iTunes Helper, Bonjour Service and so on. Rebooted the pc and ran CCleaner to get rid of stray stuff. Rebooted again and reinstalled iTunes. No joy.
I've done checking the registry entries as suggested on the Apple site and still no joy. Done a factory reset on the iPod, no joy.
Their next step is to run a repair on Windows and this is why I loathe Apple. It should just work and there shouldn't be all this faffing around to fix it. It won't roll back to the restore point created by the update, as - you've guessed it - there is an error in the iTunes restore file that prevents the restore point being used. I have tried going much further back, but the error still, comes up.
Any suggestions, other than "don't use iTunes" as that's what she wants to use?

Which version of iTunes are you running?
Which flavour of Windows 7 are you running, and is it up to date?
Do you loathe Apple because they are not Microsoft?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

If you open itunes and open device options, are you then able to open the ipod? Have you tried an alternative cable, I had this problem with my phone recently and it was my usb lead.0

She's doing homework at the moment, but it's the very latest version of iTunes off their site, I downloaded it yesterday.
It's Win 7 Home premium and as stated, fully updated, I ran the updater several times to make sure there were no more.
I loathe Apple as I was given one of the original iPhones and had no end of problems with it and ITunes. I've lost money when one iTunes account corrupted for some reason and Apple couldn't do anything about it. Since then it's been Android all the way for all the family and it's been plain sailing.0 -
Thanks I'll try that, but it will have to wait for homework, so it'll be later today.0 -
OK, the "latest" version of iTunes was released about 2 months ago. If she has plugged her iPod into her computer any time in the last 2 months it will have told her to update.
And when someone asks "which version" generally they want to know the number that you are using. The word "latest" means very little.
Is your Windows 32 bit or 64 bit?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Sorry, should have checked the site - it's 11.1.3 and Windows 7 64 bit. It downloaded the 64 bit version.0
