I have 2 PCs and a Dell Inspiron 1300 running off a Netgear Router which all recognise one another on the wireless network but the laptop cannot connect to the internet via either Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Please can someone steer me towards a solution.

Can you check what the IP of the router is? Not the local 192.168 one, the internet one. And does it have any DNS IPs?
Some ISPs also identify you by your MAC address. So it's worth trying to clone the MAC address of whatever PC was working on the internet to the router.
You'll need to check all that via the web GUI of the router.

Albertross, your link is to a thread about dial up pop ups, so not the same problem although I have checked the settings mentioned which are ok.

Cricri, I've got the IP, the router has 2 DNS IPs. What should I do now I've found them?
Not sure how I clone the PC MAC address to the router.

It sounds as though you are connected using an ad-hoc Wifi connection, this just connects pc to pc and not to the internet ?

    This seemed to work

    ping www.google.com
This gave message "Ping request could not find host www.google.com

    what does start, run, cmd

    ipconfig /all >c:\1.txt
    No response
    notepad c:\1.txt
This worked. Which settings should I be looking at

Where do I check about the ad hoc connection?

    Try changing these

    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.75.112.66

    212.75.112.67

    to your router ip address

    192.168.0.1

in control panel, network connections, your wireless adapter, properties, tcpip

    is this adsl or cable?

I get a message that the alternate and preferred DNS server cannot be the same.
