Ideas for a family holiday please.

We were thinking of going to Disneyland Paris but as it was costing £800 for 4 nights we started thinking we might be better saving up & going to the USA next year instead.

Anyway I have been looking around & I'm completely confused as to what to go for. It'll just be me, hubby & our 19 month old daughter (she'll be 21/22 months when we travel).

There are some amazing deals on trips to Egypt at the moment but I am worried about the heat. I do not want a beach holiday although I have no problem with the odd day there. I would like somewhere I can visit places of interest.

Our budget is £1000 & we will most likely be travelling in July.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks, Nickinoo

Oh & if anyone has any suggestions as to which countries are more veggie friendly than others that would be appreciated.

    Nickinoo,

    I have to admit I am not sure about prices, but Here are some suggestions of places you might like to consider;

Italy - I love Tuscany and there is lots to do and see betwenn the larger cities such as FLorence, Pisa, Sienna (my favourite) and the little hill top town such as Sangimineano (sp?). The food is quite veggie freindly with lots of veg, bread and pasta/pizza on offer. When I went (with my family - Dad organised it) we stayed in a small apartment ontop of a mountain. It was organised through Crystal holidays I think. We also hired a car so we could get around - a must in order to see the countryside.

My parents have just come back from Sorento and the Amalfi coast and loved it - although it may be a lot busier in July. They stayed in a reasonable priced hotel (sorry don't know the details) and were there for 6 nights, they didn't need a car though as the train service to rome was great, and there is lots to do in the area.

Have you considered a holiday such as Eurocamp or Canvas holidays. They have mobile homes and tents (with fridges and gas cookers!) in lots of areas in Europe and are great fun. I am sure that they have websites.

Also really ejoyed a family holiday to Switzerland a few years ago. Lots to see and do, but perhaps a little active for a buggy!

I'll see what else I can think of.

Have you looked at the Canaries - great food and cheap, but quite biased towards the beach, but would be good for your daughter. Your daughter will be happy to be with you and get lots of attention at that age.

We went to the US with my daughter at the same age and she loved it - we went to see aquariums, gardens, went on the beach, to the zoo, to the mountains etc and got so much out of watching her enjoy it all.

How about somewhere like Barcelona which is a city on the beach - lots to do and see, pretty child friendly and good for veggies.

You could look at Center Parcs too, either here or abroad - terrific for kids of all ages, and quite fun for adults too! But prices go up a lot in the holidays.

The Italian Lakes are supposed to be lovely and they love kids - haven't been, but my husband has.

How about Greece too - good for veggies, lovely scenery.

I can't recommend Eurocamp and Canvas highly enough for family holidays. And you can combine a visit to EurodisneY!!

I'd second that - pick a site with on site restaurants if you're used to hotel holidays.

    Hi

We went to France last June with my 4yr old, 18 mth old and 5 mth old and stayed on a campsite about an hour form disneyland paris. It was fantastic. The campsite was great and my son didnt want to leave to go to disney! We went with keycamp but there were other companies on there i.e Canvas, eurocamp etc..

The campsite was called La Croix de viex point and it was very picturesque and peaceful with a lake.

Id highly recommend it, the drive from the ferry at Calais was about 3 hours and theres lots to do in the area. We also took the train in Paris for the day which we loved.

    Hope this helps

Disney is a total waste of time for a family of 3 with an under 2 year old. One of you will always be left holding the baby while the other has a shot on the rides. Spain, Canaries,Portugal, Italy etc should be OK
EGYPT and UAE etc are so hot its ridiculouse in JULY.
Download my ebook - its FREE-Im doing JULY ,5 of us this year for £1200 for 2 weeks

How about Turkey? Places of interest around every corner, very family orientated so babies and children welcomed everywhere, and vegetarian dishes to die for, not to mention some of the most beautiful beaches in the world :) Downside, it is pretty hot in July, but manageable

I would say that for people with a small, you are probably best going to places like the greek ilands (recommend crete for a bit of history, bit of shopping, waterparks, good eats, bit of beach etc), or the canaries etc.

Have a look on sites like http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/ for feedback from people who have 'been there', and advice about destinations.

Also www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk for honest reviews of hotels / apartments, once you have an idea of where you might like to go.

For cheap booking, I have found this site and this one and this one too to be excellent search engines, which have resulted in a number of low-cost high-quality holidays for me and OH.

I would go with Northern Italy around Lake Garda's camp site's and a cheap flight.
It wont be as hot as southern parts but still very nice.
Thomsons al fresco have some nice places but I am sure you can find cheaper off the net.
You have the choice then of a beach (round the lake) or sight seeing such as Venice and Verona
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel
