Your supplier tells the delivery agent how they want the goods delivered i.e. signed for or left on the door step. Their choice and that drives costs for them.

Well said! I work in the Customer Service Department of one of these delivery companies, and don't think I could cope with doing the drivers job. The 'they didn't ring the doorbell' is the worst, and feels very insulting to the driver to have to query this.

I find drivers being called liars a lot too. People seem to forget that drivers are only human, and mistakes and accidents will happen occasionally. In most instances, deliveries go smoothly, but when they don't, it is in the vast majority of cases, an honest mistake.

While receiving a good service is essential, I think it's important to remember how many deliveries a driver will be doing each day, all of the factors that affect that, and that your parcel isn't the only one the company needs to deliver that day.

I want to send luggage for my holidays to Germany, ca 20kg. Has anyone any experiences sending luggage? Which companies are the cheapest, and most reliable? Thought I save the hassle of taking it with me as I travel with a small child using public transport with several changes... I found a quote for UPS for 29.99 to 34.99 but have never used UPS.
  • Decided, for the first time ever, to use Parcel2Go/MyHermes instead of the Post Office as significantly cheaper. Posted 3 parcels, 2 arrived and 1 didn't. Tracking info said delivered through letter box but definitely wasn't. Received a claim form, but haven't bothered as the £5 compensation wasn't worth the significant effort required. Really annoying! Also received an email to say that they'd had technical problems and that one of the parcels would take longer to deliver than stated. Disappointing all round! To be fair, PO have also lost my post on more than one occasion. Carrier pigeon might be more successful!
