Have to admit i would go for a CBR600.

Find the best I could for the money.

the cbr600 for £9799 new, I would rather go with the Kawasaki er-6f abs model for £6049 new, looks much better bike to me anyway

..Which you can get for 5400-5800 depends on which retailer.. There's a lot of margin in the RRP price.

Source: I'm in the process of buying one

Another vote for the VFR800 here. Honda are a legend for reliability for good reason :)

Got it started by pouring fuel straight into it, last kick of the ball it seems to be running from the fuel tank again, although really rough at the moment.

Stick some Profi Fuel Max carb cleaner in the tank.

Amazing stuff, the only Magic Fluid that I've ever bought that did what it claimed: cleans the carb jets without stripping down.

    £20 a tin mind :(
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I've got a VFR800. Not sure I'd use it for city commuting personally as it's a bit of a lump at low speeds and the turning circle is much larger than a ER6.

That said love it for long distance work or if you're lucky enough to commute without too much city riding

Something like the Yamaha FZS600 Fazer might suit you. Plenty of poke without being too manic, comfortable riding position and for your budget you'd get a nice example.

The Fazer 600's are great bikes. But an old 98-2003 FZS600 model in top nick with about 15-20K on clock will only set you back about £1500-2000 odd. They're nibble for commuting, not super sporty, but sporty enough, yet up right and practical enough for touring. Good all rounders really, and bloody good value to boot.

For £3k, you could consider the later FZ6's or Fazer Thou. Might even find a nice model with ABS for that money.

Or totally different, not sporty and good fun bike, maybe look at something like the newish Yammy MT03 or KTM Duke 690, both great fun, naked, hooning about bikes.

Battery was flat so I've had that on charge. Never got near it today as I had a 1992 fireblade to pick up.

Nothing like starting a thread for advice then doing what I shouldn't have done.

I think we can stop giving advice now - looks like he's bought a Fireblade and was posting to update an old thread.

Recommendations for a good chiropractor might be useful after riding that though!
  • from my own experience i would advise getting a honda. if not then one of the big jap 4's honda suzuki yamaha kawasaki. I have had all of these and the only one that gave me trouble free biking were my honda's.
    CB600 maybe?

Or maybe pay attention and realise the OP has answered his own question by buying a Fireblade?

    Avoid a Ducati.

Why?? I've owned Ducati's for 17 years, no problems, brilliant dealer.
