I think I am. But experience tells me to open my mind a little and there is, if I'm wrong, an interesting opportunity here.i am sure you are right o4u.
Indeed. Or overpay. Etc.but i wonder whether, if you called Halifax and asked to make an additional payment to your mortgage, they would let you do it using your credit card.
I really do hate ringing banks though!0 -
Most companies offer an alternative to dd's - it's a case of calling and asking the question.
When I set them up I will come back on and let you know. Thanks for now.

I've thanked your post above on this. The 23% stat is off customers who had contacted CAB with monetary problems, not in general.
Could I make a genuine suggestion to you. As somebody who works in the banking industry you have an opportunity to provide clarity and insight to the layman.
That insight can help people to organise their affairs in a more cost effective way.
Twice already in this thread you have been a little vague on the detail. The precise mechanics of the difference between CPA and Direct Debit are key to being able to exploit any loopholes to maximise cashback. And the item above didn't, originally, mention CAB. You just stated "23% of customers made at least one mortgage pymt on their CC due to debt issues".
It's a massive leap from "23% of customers" to "23% of those with CAB contact". While I'm sure it wasn't intended to mislead, it did.
Being a little more specific with your information will enhance your credibility.0 -
A previous post asked why I wanted this, it is to ug from Prem E to Biz. We are going to San Fran from Heathrow & prefer BA to VA.
Ultimately your choice but VS (VA is Virgin Australia not Virgin Atlantic) is without doubt better both at LHR and on the plane. At SFO its going to be a closer call and havent been to the VS clubhouse there for a while but the BA lounge is a fairly basic one.
If you want avios points then look at Amex again Avios by Lloyds or something like Tesco Clubcard which allows you to convert to Avios as your backup where AmEx isnt accepted0 -
Yeah sorry for the omissions I'm still getting to grips with this forum0

Now that has been settled can I steer it back to my original point?
It's sounds like I need a MC for bill pymts and the Gold Amex for purchases.

Just a word of caution. I tried to upgrade using Avios flying from LHR to LAX end of last year and unfortunately there were no upgrade seats available. They only release a certain amount of seats that can be upgraded with points so be prepared for the fact there may be none available.
I was also due to fly back from LAX on a nice new shiny Airbus 380 and at the last minute they switched planes to a tatty old 747. Not impressed.
I think collecting and spending Avios is a dark art so make sure that you read up on it as I am still learning the tips and tricks."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

Very subjective as it doesn't take into account any FF status etc the OP may have, nor does it consider future activity.
By buying a premium economy ticket and upgrading to club world with avios, the OP will still receive the base avios and (more importantly, tier points) from the underlying WT+ booking.
On a roundtrip LHR to SFO that comes to 13,396 avios and 180 tier points each for the OP and his wife. Easily enough for a reward flight saver to a european destination and almost 2/3 of the way towards bronze membership of BAEC (assuming no current status). Depending on his future plans, I reckon that is a better deal than with Virgin.
I agree that the LHR Clubhouse is a fantastic lounge but the BA lounges aren't exactly dumps!
With regards to the other post about availability of reward tickets, you can now book with cash (the premium economy ticket) and upgrade instantly with avios in the same booking - i.e. you can see all the availability for each flight in front of you. So long as the OP is reasonably flexible with the day of the week/time of flight, I don't see getting the upgrade being too difficult.0 -
Last time I checked with VS then upgrades with miles were only allowed on high price tickets, so you end up paying near full price on economy for example. To upgrade to pe, and similarly pe to upper class.0

i think you are being a bit tough on the chap, but i am entirely with you on what we are trying to achieve, and despite the vague moments, deano is taking it well:T0
