Have you thought about looking on eBay for original vintage English Rose kitchen units?
Looking back at *sold listings* there are some complete English Rose kitchens that sold last year for under £2k......in need of restoration, but a bargain imho
Have fun planning Mortgage-free for fourteen years! Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

I'd be wary of a company with this on their web site.
Doesn't fill me with confidence about their attitude to the finer details. If your looking for a design classic with a retro, vintage, 1950's feel then you are in exactly the right place. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Hmm we do happen to restore classic cars, so have all the equipment and spraying kit to do up an original Just working out our design now! If anyone spots any good english rose bargains let me know Just working out our design now! If anyone spots any good english rose bargains let me know There's not all that much on ebay at the moment, and we were planning to have the work done by late summer... not much time to collect and restore it all! I would definitely consider original or making yourselves to fit YOUR space then, because then it will fit your 1930s house rather than be a modern units best fit. The only thing that has to be standard spaced is the white goods etc. . .
Personally though, in a 1930s house with an Art Deco bathroom, I'd be looking at something more 30's ish for the kitchen too. But like doozer, I defietly like that you are making YOUR house YOURS. Too much cream blank uniform high gloss or shabby chic these days IMO. . 0 . 0

Does sound as though you're set up to DIY though.......
Am pretty busy myself as we're trying to get our whole house project (a real biggie!) finished within the next six months so can feel your pain - but if I come across anything I'll let you know Mortgage-free for fourteen years! Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

 Congratulations!
Mixed period makes sense too IMO. It just looks like the kitchen had a 'modern refit' 0 0

I don't know where abouts you are in the uk, but I pass the signs for this company frequently.
As you are planning to stay in this home go with what you really want in your kitchen, and restoring/renovating original units meanse you can customise them to suit yourselves, particularly colour wise.0

Thanks Dolly, but I think that we are almost sorted out now! We are going on an epic road trip this weekend, to Hitchin, Norwich and Bath in a hired van, to pick up everything. Cost (including van hire) will be about £2k for the complete kitchen. The only piece we haven't been able to track down is the corner infill unit, but we may be able to make that... We're also getting some spare handles, so will have a custom size tall storage cupboard made too, to fit the remaining space (as we need one a bit wider than the original) and still make it look 'right'.
I have to say that Source Antiques, who sell the refurbished ones, have been very helpful. They're supplying the remaining units we need at a fair price in un-restored condition, and they're opening up specially for us on Sunday so we can pick them up.0

Thought I would resurrect this thread to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped. This kitchen wouldn't have happened without your ideas and advice, and I absolutely love it It took a bit longer than we'd hoped (mainly due to the builders) but was well worth the time and effort to find all the units and get them sprayed etc. It took a bit longer than we'd hoped (mainly due to the builders) but was well worth the time and effort to find all the units and get them sprayed etc. 0 0
