Looking for kitchen inspiration

We have finally got planning permission for our extension
So I'm just having a look at kitchen ideas and came across this one which I really like http://www.john-lewis.co.uk/kitchens/creme-de-la-creme#.UsSIufRdXoH
I suspect it is very expensive, and there's no local showroom anyway! Can anyone suggest any other designs / makes that I might want to take a look at for ideas?
If it helps - our house was built in the 1930s and we have already put in an Art Deco style tiled bathroom, so we're considering something vintage-ish for the kitchen too.
We have already decided on the cooker - http://leisurecooker.co.uk/Item/CMTE95

Sorry can't help with your cupboards as I knew exactly what I wanted, so didn't look in any detail at anything else.
About your cooker though, if you're going to have an electric hob, I would highly recommend looking at induction.0 -
Great units, but they are so distinctive I'd worry I'd tire of them quickly. How about something plainer, but with a 30s vibe coming from the handles/accessories?0

Are you likely to be staying in your house for long? If so, then go for your dream kitchen (I'm sure a clever chippie would be able to create the look for much less)
However, if you try and sell a house with a kitchen like that, then I think you'll be limiting your market and/or will have to reflect in the price the fact that for many people they would want to get rid of it straight away as it's not to their taste - it's a pretty strong look!
Good luck0 -
I agree with fluffpot.
If this is your forever home, do what you like. But if you have ideas to sell in the next 5 years or so, I would tread carefully.
While I'm a great fan of the retro look, I think this is OTT and will put lots of people off, and may even have an adverse impact on value as many people will look to rip it out as soon as they move in.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Have to agree with the last two posters.
I admit that I don't like retro at all (so I would be one of the purchasers who would rip that kitchen out asap), but as phill99 says, it's a VERY strong look that you could get sick of after a while. It would definitely limit your market if you wanted to sell.0 -
I agree with the other posters, it's a very strong look. I wanted a 50s diner vibe for my kitchen so planned to have a plain white kitchen, black floor tiles, red walls half tiled in white and a retro smeg style fridge.
That way I could easily change the style just by painting it and changing accessories, such as the diner wall signs I planned.
I say planned because OH hated the idea lol

I can't think of any of the mainstream retailers selling anything like that. Fashions tend to filter down slowly from the top end manufacturers, depending on how well they are received.
Ultimately, it's a cream, high gloss kitchen with some rather unique handle styling.
You can buy a cream high gloss slab kitchen from anywhere and then scour the internet for handles that aren't integrated but will save you a fortune, might give a 50s feel and also allow you or buyers to change them in the future. You don't have to buy handles at all from the retailers, so you're not going to waste money on handles you don't want.
You can also style the rest of the room around it. A retro fridge, funky coloured formica worktops, and then perhaps handles to match the worktop. Perhaps like these:

None of the cost as much as the units, so could be changed when you are ready for something different.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I thought it wouldn't be to everyone's taste
Yes, we are planning to stay put for a very long time, otherwise we'd definitely be looking for something less distinctive.
Lovely handles doozergirl - certainly worth thinking about

I like that you're not afraid of what you like. Most people play it safe but it's your house, have fun

Good point! I'm now considering the grey kitchen from Ikea but was worried it wasn't 'normal' so I may just take your advice too
