Certainly our local Chinese & Indian charges more on Just Eat and Hungry House than they do if you buy directly from them, and certainly by more than the 3-5% cashback. Likewise they both accept credit cards for telephone orders.

Really it comes down to if you want the convenience of ordering online for a premium or ordering on the phone for less.

This. Our favourite Chinese takeaway has just gone onto Just Eat and their entire website is "powered by Just Eat" so all of the online prices are Just Eat prices. There isn't even a phone number on the site - encouraging you to order online. But if you do phone up, it's on average about 5-10% cheaper (although the drawback obviously is that you have to pay in cash - but at least you don't pay 'til you get the food!).

Most of our local takeaways charge the same price on just eat and on their menu. Most also take card on collection only but not over the phone.

Irrespective I like the convenience of using the app to order my food without having to talk to anybody.

It's not for everybody of course, but since we're all individual then it doesn't matter

Ours too but they accept credit cards over the phone - I cannot say I've ever known a chinese or indian etc that doesnt accept credit cards.

The driver tells us each time to call instead of using Just Eat and gives a menu with their telephone number on it. Unfortunately the Mrs doesnt like speaking on the phone and finds it easier to just repeat order from last time

At least your food turned up, the last few orders i've had with just-eat, the restaurants accepted the order, then refused to deliver them
  • Wow. If my family want a takeaway,, I walk to the shop, order the food, have a chat with the guys in the shop until its cooked 10 minutes later then take it home. I must be doing it wrong.

If you are not happy you can say that on your review on relevant sites, that can hurt more than having to give you a refund or some token gesture.

Nope, on the rare occasion that I have a take-away I agree with you. I like going to collect the food and having a chat with the staff. But FWIW I don't think JustEat can be blamed for something over which they have no control. The system is also dependent on someone at the take-away having the time to pick up the order at their end.

I'm a bit miffed as my food arrived at 19:00 (was supposed to be delivered by 18:00 so and I ordered at 17:00, so 1 hr late). I spoke to just eat and they said if I want any goodwill gesture I've to take it up with the restaurants myself. Is this right or should I pursue just eat?

Was this on New Year's Eve? If so then I think you have to accept that its a very busy time and if you haven't spoken to them direct then they aren't able to explain the real delivery time.

We went to a restaurant on New Year's Eve. Table was booked for 8pm. We didn't get our food until 10:20pm. But it was New Year's Eve, so we just took in the atmosphere. It didn't occur to me to ask for a discount.

Did Just Eat confirm the delivery time, or did the restaurant contact you and confirm it?
Did you pay Just Eat, or the restaurant?

If the answer to both of those is "the restaurant", then write a bad review about the restaurant, and complain about it.
If the answer is Just Eat, then write a bad review about them, and complain about them.

Who you paid and who confirmed it are the key bits. Given that Just Eat have told you that they will do nothing, that you need to go to the restaurant, then that says to me that the next time you place an order, do so directly with the restaurant. It might mean talking to someone rather than using an app, but at least you'll know when it should be arriving.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Why do people even use Just Eat? Phone the take away/restaurant direct so you know where you stand.

I use them specifically so that if the food isn't good or the food is late, I can leave a review and I can also see others reviews on places I wish to order from.

OP, did you call the restaurant after the expected delivery time had passed?
