Dropped my Camera Doh!!

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me on this. Managed to drop my digital camera on a hard floor. The lens now refuses to retract when switching the camera off (looks a bit wonky tbh).
Is it safe to undo the little screws at the bottom of the camera and have a fiddle about? or is this going to be more trouble than it's worth and I would be better taking to a camera shop?
Thanks

this happened to us and...
chances are they will take one look at it and tell you to buy a new one as a repair will cost more than a replacement.
a sad sign of the times where something costs MORE to repair than to replace.just in case you need to know:

My Daughter dropped my OH's new camera a few years back and the same thing happened. I opened up the camera and a small plastic piece which was part of the retraction mechanism had slipped and jammed.
I managed to remove all the parts and replace them although it did take a pair of fine tipped tweezers, a head light and a magnifying glass. It's been fine since though.0 -
Thanks Mista - I shall have a go! Probably in the morning when the light is better.

What is the make and model of the camera?
Does it still take sharp pictures?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Is it a snappy camera? (Technical me!!) when I sat on mine and the lenses jammed I wiggled it pretty hard and it clicked back in.
Not guaranteed but it worked from then on.

It's a £50 camera so would be a non-economic repair. You can have a go at fixing it yourself, just make sure you remove the battery before taking it apart and download all the photos to your computer as well.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

I once tried to repair a small digital camera after it had been dropped.
I managed to short (what I thought was only) a small capaitor.
Glad I had a plastic screwdriver, it blew a hole in the mainboard!
They are very fiddly, but with patience and tweezers, it can be done (providing nothing is actually broken).:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0
