Thanks for that. That's the kind of response that really makes me proud to have put my life on the line so that you can have your opinion just as I can.

You're obviously desperate to tell us, so let's have it - what angle are you taking here, ex army? Fireman? International man of mystery?

And what does that have to do with you being unnecessarily rude and sanctimonious in response to a simple question about a stray key?

You know, I always think it's so horrible that people make such rude comments about another poster who's just trying to do the right thing in the correct forum.

Well done ladymarmalade222 for being sensible and trying to help somebody else. I wish there were more people like you. :)

Not at all, I really couldn't care less.

I would appreciate you pointing out just where at any point have I been rude to anyone? I'm not the one being rude here.

In fact, I haven't called anyone any names, merely stated my opinion on an open forum. You may not like it, you may disagree; that's up to you.

In return, however, I've been called a smarter$e, tiresome and sanctimonious.

From different posters, which to most people would suggest something about the way you responded to a simple query.
  • There is one thing that might possibly work if you don't want to simply bin the key.

Stick it in a padded envelope (stamped but no address and not sealed) along with a letter explaining who it is from and next time you are passing your local police station pop in there.

Speak to the person on the desk and tell them what you want to do, and ask if they could get the address of the registered keeper (they can find this easily enough) and ask them if they would write it on the envelope and drop it in the post.

They may do this, and if they don't then just put the key in the rubbish.
