In car aerials would be shielded from the signal by the metal roof.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

You can get things that attach to glass like side windows or windscreens

EuroCarParts or similar will stock a universal one.
Maybe a model specific one but i doubt it.
Halfords will stock such things but to be honest the cheapest option may be going to a breakers yard that specialises in your car and buy a couple
Was as likely to have been kids mucking about as somebody stealing it for their own car0 -

Makes me wonder how there is an issue with people using mobile phones while driving...
The signals get in through the windows (as I'm sure you knew.) Some vehicles do have problems because they have a metallised surface on the glass to reflect heat. These do need repeater aerials on the outside for mobiles and gps to work properly.
In the OPs case there are cheap stick on aerials available that run along the top of the windscreen, but they don't work very well, andwould be a lot more trouble to connect to the radio than just buying a replacement, and either screwing it off each evening, or just accepting that he will lose 1 or two a year and leaving it on.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I have a Clio, is it easy to get these wired ones fitted inside the car?0

Maplins sells a cheapo replacement car aerial, will certainly be cheaper than halfrauds. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Try eBay. Simply type "clio aerial" and pick one for a couple of quid.
Then just screw it back on.
To fit a wire one you need to buy it, clean the windscreen, stick it on, thread the wire down the door pillar and through to the radio, pull the radio out, disconnect the original aerial, find the plug on the new one won't fit, sort out an adaptor, replace, and then it won't work very well.
Don't know about you, but that is far too much effort for me, I'd either do without radio, or just keep screwing on new aerials at 2 quid a time, if they start disappearing every night, I'd likely unscrew it myself when I park it.
You do realise that the next thing that the yoofs steal is the wiper blades don't you?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
