Don't get chance to post much although follow the thread.
DD is 10 weeks & on SMA. We are going to Spain - nr Torrevieja (Murcia) in a couple of weeks for a few days & was thinking of using the ready made. Have given it to her a few times. I have a friend in Spain checking what's available but wondered what others have used. The friend said that she thinks it's available but expensive & someone she knew had used a Spanish alternative. I can take it with us but would be easier to buy over there.
Personally, I'd bring it with me - even if your friend thinks she's found the exact same thing. I know it's a pain - we spent weeks at a time at my parents' whilst I was on maternity leave (when I'd bring big tubs of powdered milk) and also went on weekends away (when I'd bring ready made), but I wasn't prepared to risk it. You don't know how your LO will react to a different milk and you don't want to ruin a holiday by having a screaming baby when it could have been prevented0 -
Two bits of junk through the post today:
Tesco baby event, 7th Jan - 3rd Feb
Asda baby & toddler event, starting online 16th Jan and instore 20th Jan
Worth a looking if anyone needs anything0 -
What Nutella said, having switched LO from BF to BF & Aptimal to just Aptimal to SMA - it can upset their stomachs for up to two weeks and that would ruin the holiday so I'd take it with me.
Don't recognise the nappy brand I'm afraid but I'm loving easy-ups for in the day as she just won't lie still lately and I don't have the biggest hands to be able to hold her down!
Having a rough few days in the Sparkles' household, LO has stopped sleeping through, in fact she was up roughly every 45 minutes last night and has been waking at 5am for a few days. I'm so shattered and have no idea why she can't settle herself suddenly.0 -
Claretsgirl I'm so sorry for your loss. Hope that you're coping and being able to have a little "me" time to recover x
Nutella those nappies could well be Sainsburys; their size 4 have a fish on the front (with the 4 above it), green square inside and elasticated back. I tried just about every nappy I could get my hands on a little while back with Aand yes, the elasticated back is fab.
On weaning, although many brands will advertise foods as suitable from 4 months, the current WHO guidelines are not to introduce any solids until 6 months.
MrsH :T for the news about LO's head - that's fab news
AFM, I heard from HR and have been allocated a position in the new structure. The interview I'm invited to attend is so that I don't feel left out not having one and so they could tell me my position... they told me over the phone when I said I couldn't make it. Why on earth they assumed I'd want to commute an hour each way for something they told me in 2 min I have no idea?!
Any ideas on how to get A to nap? She has always been a rubbish napper, but quite good at night. She is now going all morning without a nap, unless I go for a drive/walk which is just not practical or possible every day.0 -
Thank you so much for the replies re weaning.
To be honest I'm not ready to introduce foods to her in 4 weeks time, even if it is just baby rice. Feels too soon to me as I feel like I still have a baby if that makes sense.
Will go with the flow and let her tell me in her own way when milk isn't enough. Really appreciate replies though. This 1st time mum thing can be daunting and with me being from Australia I don't have the freedom to just ring my mum when I feel like it to ask these things.
Vic3 - Never done dream feeding. We decided to go with the approach that she'd wake up to tell us when she was hungry. She used to fall asleep in her moses basket in the lounge with us and then have a bottle about 10pm just before we went to bed. Then she'd wake roughly at 1am and then again about 3am and then 6am.
Now at 3mths old she will have a bottle between 6:30 - 7pm and then will sleep until at the earliest 5:30am. (in a 24 hour period she will drink roughly 30oz of milk)
2 couples from antenatal have done dream feeding, one lady is breast feeding and is going through a stint of him feeding every hour. He's 5 mths old and another lady bottle feeds and was waking her son at 11pm for a feed (so kinda different to dream feeding really) but was advised to stop that as now he is waking himself up at 11pm and is wide awake, not actually waking up because he is hungry.
Just sharing what I know, don't let it put you off as obviously people have success with it.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Vic, we do the dream feed and it's generally been working well for us. If she has fallen into a deep sleep beforehand we bring her downstairs with the lights down low and do a nappy change etc. letting her wake just enough to take the feed, then I bf her in the dark or hubby does an expressed bottle. It's worked ok for us so far, but she's fallen asleep after 10 mins tonight so it may be a very early wake up for me tomorrow morning!
Hugs to those not getting sleep suddenly. So tough after being spoiled with the good stuff for so long :S
Off to bed for me as I'm sure LO will wake up at antisocial hours!0 -
Personally I wouldn't do this unless your LO shows signs of being ready for solids before 6 months. Baby rice has minimal nutritional value, and until 6 months they get everything they need from milk. Even at 6 months I'd rather give nutritional vegetables than rice.
As an aside, my LO couldn't stand baby rice, and once I'd tasted it myself I knew why - it really is vile!:rotfl:
I agree with this 100% I was goaded into weaning early because he wasn't 'gaining' enough I was naive and stupid and believed what I was being told. If I could go back in time I would. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Nutella, yes i would love that book (if it was me you were offering it to!?) Ill pm you my name and address tomorrow if so, thanks.
Thanks for all weaning replies, he has carrot and spuds at teatime. Mrsh would you be able to list times of bottles and food? Thanks v much. I know it will be a while before he drops any feeds, but do you just stop them or wait for him to 'tell' me, gosh im clueless.
4 months is soo early to wean, I was happy enough to wait, although he had a spoon of rice from 24weeks each day,
sparkles I feel your pain, ds hasnt slept through in ages, once last week, but it used to be every night but from he has learnt to roll it wakes him up for ages and usually at 5am and 2am sometimes. I had a meltdown one night over it. Im going back to work in a matter of weeks, so very scared about working with severe sleep deprivation!! Night all xxMum of 2 :j0 -

Please do - I'll pop it in the post tomorrow or later today x0 -
Hello,
This is my first time ever posting so apologies if I am in the wrong place and therefore annoying (sounds about right!).
I write a "family" blog itsallaboutbea . com and I'm currently running a giveaway for a free pack of personalised dummies. I just wanted to get word out in case anyone is interested in entering.
Thanks,
Bea0
