I like seeing people's search wins and would be very sorry if those posts were stopped because a couple of people don't like them! It's an open forum and as long as people stick (in the main) to the topic of the thread and don't break rules, then 'don't like x, y or z posts' are just bossy and unnecessary, in my view. :p

Personally, my life is too busy and interesting to be faffing around with the dictionary or refreshing numbers. I tend to use the search for searching things I'm interested in, but that doesn't stop me enjoying other people's happy posts, when they have a good win. :j

I'll try searching for Party Pooper now too. :D

  • On a more serious reply to the search posting question.

I personally think that posting searches is part of the dynamics of this thread.

Yes the search term is irrelevant to the dynamics of the algorithm so in that sense the posts are useless but the posts move the thread along encouraging others to post useless (or maybe useful) stuff.

Yes the newbie does ask the first question why are we posting search terms which in itself is a bit of a fly trap getting more engagement with the thread. Generally the newbie gets a welcome and pointed to the tutorial bits

Hopefully some amuse....for me they generally remind me to go search

I don't want to get into a row over this - you are of course entitled to your opinion.

I'm glad your life is busy and interesting - clearly mine isn't as I'm posting on this forum on a sunny Sunday and spending a few hours to earn only a couple of £ on a site called Swagbucks... oh hang on a minute... so are you...

If people want to actually have fun and be sociable in their posts then that's different. Then I can understand being called a party pooper asking people not to do it. But I'm not - all I'm saying is

Do we have to keep posting things like this:

"yes *I* have won again! - I made this search term but it will not benefit you but thought I'd tell you all anyway. Would you like to know what I had for lunch (but that also won't help you to earn more Swagbucks either)"
    8 SB
    Dubs

    Please explain how this is

    a) useful
    b) fun

    ?

Final point - If EVERYONE who posts and lurks on this thread decided to post every time they got a search win - do you think the forum would be better or worse for it?

Ok - rant over - having been a member of MSE since 2006 and read through 1000's of forum posts, I'm just a little less tolerant of pointless posts than perhaps I should be (even more so when people thank them for it !). Appolgies again to anyone who finds my opinion a problem

whatever888 above - yes I take your point - but it still annoys me enough to put electronic pen to paper - look how massive this thread is (nearly 20,000 posts!!) - there is still more than enough to engage people without these search win declarations. When I post (until the last few admittedly) I always try to either help someone or offer something useful or what's the point - I guess I just feel everyone else should be doing the same and in that perhaps I am wrong and selfish - but at least efficient :-)

  • I noticed that the 80sb Home Page Survey's are back, I managed to get in to one this morning and it paid me straight away on completion, I didn't have to put in a ticket afterwards :j

Looks like (all fingers crossed), it has been fixed, cheers Swagbucks :T:D

do you think the constant posting of string searches, the amount of swagbucks they got and the amount of times they have won searches today is actually a good use of this forum?

    1. It misleading for newbies as they think if they search same term they will also guarantee themselves a win - which it doesn't. If it ever does it is simply a coincidence. I think we all agree on that.

    2. At best its pointless, the actual term searched can be anything at all as long as its a proper word. The algorithm for search wins is based on how much you have already won that day and the time of the search. The actual subject of the search is irrelevant.

    3. At worst its simply boasting - "look at me I've won 8 SB and this is the second time today!" - how is that helping anyone? Rubbing peoples noses in it more like. Also I notice that people are being thanked for these 'useful posts'! ?

I've heard people before justify all these by saying it gives people 'inspiration'. Maybe if they won a 40 SB search that might be worth mentioning as its out of the ordinary....

...but who really needs inspiration? The first week I searched simply by putting in '11' and then refreshed that a few times throughout the day until I won. I then replaced that with '22' and then '33'. It worked exactly the same way as someone's inspirational sentence.

If anyone really is having a blank try picking up the dictionary and just going through it one word at a time until you get a search win. It should last you pretty much until you stop using swagbucks. Write the word followed by 'definition' if people are more comfortable writing a valid sentence. Or google 1000 best songs of all time - and cut and paste in each one - again it will last years - no need for inspiration ;)

Honestly, I really like this forum and have found some really useful posts but I'd say you could cut 10,000's of posts out if people just stopped doing this - which would make it soooooo much more easy to scroll through each day and find the truley useful stuff.

Sorry if this comes across as mean, 'humbug' but I'm sure I'm not alone on this (an anonymous poll would be interesting) - most of the posts are simply a search string, amount and number of times won - where's the fun in that (before someone posts "we are just having a bit of fun")?

Yes, why would it not be a good use of this forum- everyone can search on swag bucks and win. If you read their various Facebook groups, everyone shares their search wins. It creates community, a shared interest or goal and that is a positive thing. I think most people do Swag bucks for a bit of fun and money on the side, this thread remains in that vein.

1- it's not mis-leading, no-one is guaranteeing anyone if they search for those words, they will get a win.

2- it's not pointless and contrary to your belief, you don't even have to post proper words to win. I could tell you of countless times that I have been unable to get a win, then I search something someone else has and after trying all day, I miraculously get a win. Now personally, I don't know anything about algorithms nor do I wish to, and I like to think it is down to chance and maybe what your search for.

3- it's not boasting. Everyone is on here to earn and we (mostly) enjoy sharing in others ups and downs. Personally I find it motivating, particularly on the odd occasion someone shares a mega win. People on this thread are also great encouragers when you are having a bad day.

And yes, other peoples posts do provide inspiration. I'm sorry you don't seem to feel the same way about any of this. I'd suggest then, this isn't the thread for you. Maybe you should try one of the many other forums to talk about swag bucks, I'm sure one of them will be up your street. But, that is how this thread has always worked and I don't think that having a moan about this repeatedly is going to change it!

I will agree that in the NY, I think we ought to start a new thread as this one is now very long. But it just supports how popular Swag bucks is here and how many people post on this thread. It is very rare that I ever see something unhelpful posted on here. MSE is always talking about how popular SB is with forumites in their weekly newsletters.

Oookay, each to their own. If you think your posts are more useful/worthwhile/relevant than those you consider 'pointless', then fair enough. I only hope your posts above haven't discouraged anyone from posting any 'pointless' posts or questions that they, personally, consider relevant or interesting.

For the record, I wasn't casting any aspersions on how busy and interesting your life is, or isn't. I'm sure that your use of your free time is just as valuable and worthwhile to you, as mine is to me. I was merely commenting directly on my life and what does or doesn't interest me.

I don't 'do' rows on internet forums, so there's no chance of that happening, though I do enjoy a good debate. :D
