Happy New Year all!
BF and I saw in the new year watching a film in bed and munching on a late night snack of cheese wrapped in bacon, followed by strawberry jelly!
We've spent so many NYE at a local pub while BF's band played their NYE do, that it's lovely to spend them at home now!
So far today I've roasted a little chicken for my work lunches for the next couple of days and done some crocheting.
Just had bacon sandwiches for lunch while BF watches his new P!nk Blu-ray (despite being a beardy metal-head, he has a certain affection for her!)
Need to shower, make some more jelly then go to BF's mums for NY dinner.
Hope everyone has a good day and the coming year is happy and healthy. I'll leave you with my favourite quote from Neil Gaiman....
May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Happy New Year to you all,I hope 2014 is a good one for you all.
We watched fireworks from the bedroom window, very nice, after watching our film and jools with a Baileys and ice.
Just been out with Lylapup, horrible weather with wind and heavy rain, but went through the woods so a bit more sheltered than the fields of mud.Still soaked though
Had some broc & stilton soup I found in the freezer that I made in Jan last year, obviously had some stilton left over from Crimbo, was delish.Slow cooked beef in the sc as we're off to footballl shortly so that will be nice and ready when we get in later.
Hope you all have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Afternoon all
I lurk a lot these days but wanted to say hello and wish everyone a Happy New Year.
We are going to have our first grandchild in May, a boy. DD lives in Japan with her Japanese hubby who is delightful. We will go over to help look after the little family just before the birth. Japanese women traditionally go to their mum's for quite a few weeks after the birth so mum and dad are going to DD's.
2014 will be a good year! I hope everyone else has a great 2014.
Take care

Good afternoon everyone and a Very Happy New Year to one and all.I got to bed around 3.00. this morning but still was wide awake and up at 7.00
:) I hate lying in,but I may read the back of my eyelids later when the t.v. is on.I am home at long last from all my too-ing and fro-ing and just settled down and youngest Dd has just rang and asked me to dinner tonight .Bless her she likes to streeetch the holiday as long as possible
:):) So I will sort my bits out and pop back to her house aroud 5 for a serious game of scrabble with the boys and a roast chicken dinner.Saves me cooking I suppose, and I do get to have one more family night before live gets back to rountine and normality again
:):)
No shopping to buy or get this week thats for sure as I came home from my eldest Dds in-laws with the remains of a Heston Blumenthal Chocolate sauce filled Christmas pudding We had some last night and it was gorgeous ,very rich and filling, and although it ssaid it would feed 8-10 there was lots left over ,and knowing I never bin food dd's sis-in-law said did I wamt to take it home.So its cooked and sitting in my fridge and will be used for pudding this week.I know DD paid £15.00 for it and a lot more than I would have paid for a pud but it was very very yummy.
All my lists are done for food stock and I just have my freezer stuff to list then I will start on the menu's for January shortly.I am doing my best to stay away from the shops this month and eat my way through the food mountain in my cupboards.:):)
Hope everyone had a good new year and are not too hung-over this afternoon.
Cheers chums

Happy 2014 to you all!
Never stay up for New Year, find it a very sad time, dont know why, but avoid it if I can, no fireworks legal here except by license so slept well, Bran was up and about during the night....turned out that he had been sick on landing! He seems fine but has been sick twice more so am going to avoid feeding him for the rest of the day.....what does everyone think, not used to having sick dogs?
Weather here still rotten, was intending to take dogs for a walk but not going to do so as cant manage them both on my own and OH wont move....to be really honest I dont feel like togging out myself, so will leave Bran to sleep.
Steak for dinner.....not sure yet if I will stirfry or have steak/chips.....might even cut Christmas cake as pudding.
Have a nice warm and dry day

Well my visitors didn't turn up for lunch , my mum text me at 11 to say they were coming , then my step dad rang at 12.30 to say my mum wasn't well and couldn't come , she is feeling sick , they are staying with my brother and SIL and so none of them came
I have loads of food left , I've packed it up and we can eat it tomorrow
I do feel really deflated
Started taking the decs down , just the tree to put away now , I'll do that tomorrow and DH will put it in the loft
Time for a cuppa xx0 -
Afternoon all,
had a flu jab yesterday and have spent the last 12 hours or so feeling awful. As I don't drink, I can't blame the New Year's drinks either
Slowly getting the decs etc down with DS's help, and putting things back to normal: it's been a nice Christmas but very muted for a number of reasons. Quite glad to see the back of 2013, but I think this year will be awkward at times, particularly with regards to MiL's estate etc. Oh well, DH didn't choose his family and isn't responsible for their lack of scruples.
Weather is rotten here too, even getting to the recycling box means a soaking.
I hope the poor bin men are all at the gym: I'm up to 6 sacks of paper and 3 of tins and bottles what with the general Xmas stuff and the decluttering
My very best wishes for health, wealth and happiness in 2014!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
(Takes a deep breath and jumps in . . .) Happy New Year, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda to one and all. I'm an extremely long time lurker on the OS boards and have decided that it's time I plucked up the courage to start posting. 2014 is going to be a funny old year for me in a number of ways, and one of my resolutions is to meet new non-work related people. As that can be difficult in RL I decided to start here so I hope you don't mind if I join you now and again for a chat?
Christmas chez Hela was ok, grown up DS joined us from N Yorks where he currently reposes, and left yesterday, leaving me and OH (plus canine boy) to see in the New Year alone for the first time in the 27 years we have known each other. Was quite odd, but ok ; we don't have much to say to each other, hence getting a rescue dog when our old girl passed! He may not talk back much, but we can both talk to him
Decided to treat us both to steak for tea, and have just discovered I've taken one beef steak and one lamb steak out of the freezer (note to self - buy a freezer pen and start using it). I've got the lamb steak in the oven and will freeze it in gravy when it's done - and add onion rings to the mushrooms and tomatoes.
Hope the weather's not too bad where you are - it hasn't got light here all day.
BFN
Hela CnauThis year I'm going to do it . . .;)0 -
Just a quick one - Happy New Year.
Just home, MIL much better and at home, I have a sore throat. Off out to friends for dinner.
Take care. XX0
