After being shouted at ;-)

apologies if I've missed the answer elswhere I've deduced from 2½ hours of trawling through these forums that simply ignoring these letters is no longer a worthwhile option.

As one of the other users has also stated, still trying to filter out which bits are / are not relevant is something I'm finding a bit tricky.

However, I was driving my father's car when pinged by one of these (G24).

Don't really want to leave him with the worry of dealing with this. Would you recommend he 'dobbs' me in to leave me to deal with it?

Sort of happy to take up the fight myself, but don't want to do it through him - was thinking of drafting a letter from him either pointing the finger at me or just stating that as he was out of the country at this time (he was actually) he has no idea as to who was using his car.

Any ideas would be welcome.

better if you do it even though he is the RK, so you can sort it on his behalf , you do the work although he will get the NTK as RK , then you sort out all the work leaving him to send it off etc

reading the NEWBIES - READ THIS FIRST sticky thread at the top of the forum is all you need to do

follow the advice in there , sort out the appeals etc on his behalf, so when he gets the paperwork he sends in what you tell him to, so its in his name, but you are the one doing all the work on his behalf

    That's the most straightforward solution

or just stating that as he was out of the country at this time (he was actually) he has no idea as to who was using his car.
This wouldn't work. Under POFA the RK can only shift responsiblity to the driver, if he provides the name and address of the driver. If he fails to do that the PPC can continue to chase the RK

    Is this England or Wales?

Assuming in this case there was a windscreen ticket (as G24 do both ANPR and attendant marshalling), then as you originally posted on the NEWBIE thread, the advice is to wait until the Notice to Keeper arrives as the position is stronger.

There is no harm in telling your father what to expect and to assist him when this notice arrives and no real point at this stage to name yourself as driver.

When the NtK arrives - a soft appeal to G24, get POPLA code and win!

I have done a fair bit of car park marshaling - not for a PPC but as a volunteer at community events/raising funds for charity's etc usually in fields for things like steam rally's, country fairs/shows firework display/party's etc etc and I have yet to see a Private parking company employee do anything approaching car park marshaling/management.

Absolutely do this, you said you were pinged, so has the PCN or NTK already arrived? If not, tell your Dad to tell you when the letter arrives (as per the Newbies thread you posted on at first. Hope you read it?!). You can write the appeals with our help but they are best written in your father's name. We have threads like this all the time, the position is stronger when writing as the keeper not the driver. Easy.

And we win 100% of POPLA appeals so there are no worries & it can't affect credit rating.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • as 4consumerrights correctly said: if it were a windscreen ticket, await Notice to Keeper. All POFA legislation begins from when they purchase your details (that's right, let them waste their money) and they send you the notice. I advised one person to ignore an APCOA ticket stuck to his windscreen at Newbury Railway Station and would you believe it? They never followed through in their campaign, this was in January 2013! Big company too (and in case you have any knowledge on this, NO, RAILWAY BYLAWS DO NOT APPLY THERE, OF THAT I AM CERTAIN). The other thing is, who is to know the windscreen ticket was on your car when you got to it? There is no evidence that a passer-by didn't interfere with the trash; I've done this a few times, only to insert my first name and phone number and a message that it is a scam and I am happy to help them.

G24 is almost certainly a postal PCN so the OP needs to simply send an appeal in Dad's name and be ready to win (as Dad) at POPLA.

Much as it pains me to admit it but how about Smart Parking at Sainsburys, Tamworth?
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
  • I saw Euro car parks do this at sainsburys in hereford on the Saturday before Christmas with signs pointing to spaces.

    I was quite impressed tbh

Smart again in a local Asda, doing a great job keeping the car park flowing. Proper car park management.

However there is no PPC or ticketing here normally.
