Listening device advice...

Not being a 'techie on recording equipment could someone give me advice please on the following.

I have recently purchased Collins Learn Italian with Paul Noble, this package consists of no fewer than 12 CDs and I would like to download them onto a device that I can carry around with me.

Could someone give me the most up to date and easy to use device that is on the market please.

Regards and Happy New Year.

You don't need an "up to date" device - any digital music player will do what you want.
If you have an iPod you can use iTunes to transfer the audio files, I assume there are similar programs for other devices.
I wouldn't advise an iPod if this is all you want it for, you can get much cheaper alternatives.

An mp3 player is another alternative. Is there 1 you could borrow eg family member, would save the expense.

I would rip the cd to mp3 - probably using http://www.audiograbber.org/maintour.html

by the way there will be little gain in sampling speech above 64k, but a higher number will make the file larger. 32k for me, speech seems a bit flat, but also should work.

Once you have them in mp3, these play on most phones these days and tablets

    Happy new year!

Here is a free italian courses by the Foreign Service Institute. These courses were developed by the United States government and are in the public domain. Suppose it is away good to know how to say "You are under arrest" and "Kill him" in Italian? :)

convert (rip) to mp3 in windows media player, transfer mp3's to mobile phone. If they are copy protected, you may have to use something like bdlot iso master (free) first.

No need to bother with the sales, you can get them for less than £20. The headphones won't be very good for that price, but I would have thought they'd be good enough for speech.

    Do you have a computer?

You'll need one, or access to to one, to put the files onto the MP3 player.

If you get the very popular apple brand one, then I have no clue, but there should be many peopleable to help. The rest are drag usually drag and drop.

To be honest, most people would play these on their phones. Are you planning to get a new phone, or an upgrade, and are your sure your existing phone does not support mp3, as it has been quite common now for many years to be played on phones?

Also the above video goes into recording the book in one go, making one cd as one mp3. If your cd's are broken up into specific chapters, you may be better off keeping the individual breaks as similar to the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_U8SPlJHLg
