Do I have to wait for old iphone to be unlocked before activating new one?
Hi folks, please can anybody help me with a question about unlocking my iphone?
I've just taken delivery of a new iphone this morning. Decided not to sell my old one as OH wanted a new iPod as his is very old and ropey, so we've decided to get him a new SIM card so he can use my old 64gb iphone instead.
I've filled in the online form for Vodafone to unlock my old phone, though have had an email saying they are very busy so may take longer than usual for my phone to be unlocked. Have had the phone 2 years so this is free.
Do I have to wait until my old phone with existing SIM card in it is unlocked before I can start using my shiny new phone?
Or can it be unlocked without having to have a SIM card in it at all? OH is also with Vodafone if that makes any difference?
Never done this before so I don't want to start setting new phone up yet if I need to wait until the old one is unlocked first.
Would also appreciate any other advice if there's anything I should or shouldn't do before setting up new phone.
Thanks very much

If your OH is with the same network - then it won't make a blind bit of difference.
You don't need the phone unlocking for him to be able to use it. You might just perhaps need a different sized sim from his old phone? If that's the case, you can either cut it down yourself or ask VF to send you a new one.0 -
As above.
Vodafone may have sent you a new 'nano' sim with the new phone (for the IP5). If your existing one won't fit you'll need to get them to transfer the number over. You can probably do it online or by calling them.
Once Vodafone confirm the old one is unlocked you connect it to iTunes on your computer and it will unlock.0
