zoopla - tempt me - hidden?

Hi, i've had my house on tempt me on zoopla for two years and it is now at a substantial discount to the list price - and yet not a single enquiry.

I tried to 'test' zoopla by looking for temptme houses and i can't see any link on the zoopla website or indeed any means to do a temptme search. Has the facility been removed due to pressure from estate agents or am i being thick?

thanks jack

You're definitely signed in when looking?

When I sign in, I immediately get a panel on the RHS, with 'latest temptme prices', and a link 'Show my Area' ..... Below the main purple panel
  • To be honest I don't think many people (either buyers or sellers) use the TemptMe facility on Zoopla.

If you'd like to PM me the details I'd be happy to have a go for you to check if it's working.

My is working fine as i got 2 enquiries so far :)
What happens if you push this button?
  • I only recently found out about the tempt me facility in Zoopla. We'd been searching for a flat for ages and then I heard about tempt me after a bit of random googling.

It took me forever to figure out how it worked. Chances are that a) not many people know this feature exists, or b) are having trouble getting it to work (although on this last point it might well be down to me being a bit "zoopla illiterate") :)
  • OP here hmmm thanks guys i am signed in i've got a little further but there's no obvious way of doing it - i am sure its been made difficult and not advertised so folk don't stumble across tempt me houses.

I've just looked on Zoopla, trying 3 different locations but I couldn't find Tempt Me either.

I've been aware of tempt me, but always assumed that anybody wanting to be tempted would wish to be tempted by a figure greater than it was worth :)

I rate Zoopla as one of my fave websites, go on every couple of weeks and prefer it to RighMove, FindaPrperty, etc, but I'd never heard of its 'tempt me' facility?

Is it time to try another approach? I assume you are sceptical about agents and their fees, but what have you got to lose by getting three local ones round and asking for a valuation and an assessment of how well your kind of property sells locally? And assuming you beat them down to 1.5% fee or less, surely 98.5% of something is better than 100% of nothing?

I was amazed that our last sale - 2 years ago - attracted valuations ranging by 10-15%, but then, the toppy agent sold at a price we'd never have aspired to achieve as he had a buyer up his sleeve...

So while skeptical about agents as a trade, on several occasions our local ones have done us proud

I have never even looked at zoopla before today (I use rightmove) yet i found the tempt me is working

    1. before logging in there is, on the HOME page, in the bottom right corner a section called tempt me. For a new user there is no real explanation as to why I would click on that as opposed to the obvious main tab on property for sale
    2. In that corner there is a link for "show my area"
    3. to use that link you must register on zoopla
    4. Once registered, if you return to the zoopla home page, the tempt me section has moved out of sign and you have to click the scroll right tab to cycle through various other sections before the tempt me bit comes back
    4. Once back in tempt me it defaults to whatever geographic area you registered your user details under. you can then select postcodes as required for other areas

    In overall conclusion
    1. Like an earlier poster, I would regard "tempt me" prices as being anything other than tempting as they will be either out of date or the home owners idea of a joke
    2. you have to register to use it. Ok if you are seriously house hunting you would probably register anyway to get the daily updates, but then if you are house hunting you will be more interested in the actual ones for sale not the tempt me because of reason 1 above
    3. Once logged in the you have search hard to refind the tempt me section and is not intuitive to do so. I almost gave up even though I deliberately set out to find it as a challenge for this post
    4. In my street one person previously listed a tempt me price which would have moved the street carrying value into the stratosphere if he'd got it. He sold 3 years later for much less. There is another property on there at the moment with a tempt me price £5k less than the same property is listed with an estate agent also on there as it is now actively being sold - so what kind of message does that give out? I will accept an offer £5k less than asking or actually my asking is £5k less than the EA listing and I'll take an offer on top. So a complete shambolic message resulting in a waste of effort all round.
