Post Office Online Saver - Can't get back my money

I opened one of these accounts about 6 weeks ago (so it's definitely not 'dormant'), but I've NEVER been able to transfer money out. Like others, I just receive the 'Transfer cannot be applied at this time.' error message. I've been trying every day for two weeks now, without any success.

As there is no point in having an "instant access" account from which it is impossible to access my money, I have no qualms about closing it. My only mistake was wasting my time opening this useless account in the first place.

Does anyone have any idea how long it might take for these idiots to close my account and give me my money back? Are they likely to screw this up too?

After many calls and complaints they agreed to send me a cheque to close the account which arrived in about 5 days.....I will be avoiding the post office for any future accounts....

So as it turns out, I never did manage to withdraw any money 'normally'. But on the positive side, they processed my request to close my account quite promptly (within about 10 days), so I did get my money back eventually.

Either way, this is a terrible account if you want 'easy access' -- steer clear if that's what you're looking for. Save yourself some frustration and look elsewhere.
