That is what you clearly see powerful_Rogue, you can clearly see what is there. However, you need to remember that not everyone sees or draws in the same information, or even has the same understanding of it - Advertising and promotional Psychology techniques apply.

An experiment looking at the effectiveness of a simple poster promoting health in a waiting room showed that most people only read an average of 8 words despite being sat infront of the poster for twenty minutes ; they could recall only the basic 'headline'. I just use that as an example of how easy it is to provide information which goes unnoticed.

Do you have a reference for this?

Thing is - these are websites into which a user, should that user wish to proceed, will be required to enter information - and a lot of it. It's not merely an 'advert!'.

To imply that a user won't read the site they are interacting with is foolish - although they may not read it fully.

Many of the people who do not completely understand what they have done until it's too late come on here complaining they were 'in a hurry' or even that they believed thay had found a cheaper option!

Not a direct one as I did not enter the Health or Advertising areas of Psychology and no longer have the relevant texts, it was just a part of my overall professional studies. But if you are interested in that one particular study, I believe you will find reference to the study including date and researchers in a book called Health Psychology written by Jane Ogden. You will find it from there, but you may have to pay for the full article.
  • The only scammer is your optician - if you actually bothered to read the site you'll see it's very obvious they aren't the Passport Agency.

    Time to mention AdBlockPlus again.

One way of getting rid of those adverts at the top of search results list is to use something like AdBlockPlus.

Just install it and forget it.

What's more... it's free and will banish ads from many many places across the internet.

Just look at the 'apply now' button. Craftily put next to the HMPO (Her Majesty's Passport Office) website tab so it basically reads "HMPO Website - Apply Now"!

Thats why the link is there. It makes it look like clicking 'apply now' will apply to the HMPO website. This is deception.

What a ridiculous statement. I credit the OP (and 99% of consumers) with more intelligence than that.
  • I notice how Powerful_rogue keeps defending this website on the spurious point that it is 'within the law'.

I did recently put a question to him but he appears to have dodged it . So, again, just for Powerful_rogue, here's another perfectly legal scenario with which I presume he's happy?

A member of the house of lords gets his attendance fee of about £380 a day by attending. Now some of them simply walk in, this then activates their attendance allowance for the day, then simply walk out of the building.

Of course, this is not what the attendance allowance is for, and this is clearly abuse of the rulse, but perfectly legal, within the rules, no law being broken, so, P_R, I'm sure you're happy to defend this with the same gusto? Over to you!

What do you mean ridiculous?? Are you blind?
