download process explorer. Then find the offending item in explorer, kill the process, then rename the offending file to ads.filename.exe

reboot and all should be working still. check again with peocess explorer that a new one has not formed

Install CCleaner, run the cleaner and reg cleaner (for the sake of it) but mainly check your start-up items and remove anything suspicious then restart.

With the greatest respect I wouldn't advise anyone to use the registry cleaner. Although I've used CCleaner for years I'm careful to never use the reg cleaner utilty. I've known machines to become inoperable after using this.

Post me a DDS log - should take 2-3 minutes.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • Click Start
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)

Down to personal experience I guess. Must've used CCleaner in excess of 150 computers in the last 2 years, not once had a problem with the reg cleaner.

Although I admit making certain reg edits can make certain systems un-bootable without reg/boot fixes after.

Thank you for all your help and advice.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier - wasn't actually my machine so had to wait to get on it.

Turns out that Iminent had been successfully removed, but another program (Markkit) was still on there which needed removing.
