I had my car engine replaced by the dealer under warranty recently and as a result I had to send my car V5 document for the car details to be updated. I sent them via Royal mail first class recorded post on 29/11 but a week later, the online tracking facility was not confirming delivery. DVLA also denied receiving them. Royal mail made me wait for full 15 working days before I can make a claim for lost item and when I made the claim online and after completing the form I was told that I need to send them the proof of postage within 10 days or they will close the case. As I was worried about losing the original receipt in post during christmas chaeos I phone and them and they asked me to obtain proof of postage which I did on 19/12. I phoned them today to be told that the case has been closed as they did not receive the receipt. They asked me to wait for another 2 weeks and if they receive it they will open the case..Surley this is not right..what can i do with this punch of incompetent ***

  • Can't you ask DVLA for a new V5c then make the change?

    Edit you can
    https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration-certificate-v5c-log-book

    Costs £25

Could ask royal mail for the fee but don't hold your breath

I will need to pay £25 for a replacement V5c and I strongly think that Royal mail should pay for that..The change of details was free of charge

Signed for is a less than perfect service as it is not tracked . Documents should be sent special delivery, which is tracked and if compensation is required in case of loss an additional premium is required for consequential loss.

If you ask on the eBay board you will find that is many areas signed for is never signed for- although it is very often still received . RM will usually refund you the £1.10 for not getting a sig, although there is no compensation for documents . I would phone them again though and point out that you can prove you sent the POP to them and it is hardly your fault that they can't delver it.

You have used the incorrect postal service for ending documents. All you can claim for is there not being a signature on delivery.

Also as they deliver in bulk to DVLA there will not be a separate signature for every letter. they will be signed for in bulk as they may get masses each day so it would not be possible to sign separately for each one.

Its quite possible DVLA have received it and it sitting in a backlog waiting to go on tier system. my sister has just waited 5 weeks for her driving licence and despite them telling her several times that they had not received it she has now received it back.

You should have used Special delivery as that would be kept separate from other mail and would have had an individual signature.

I don't think violence is the answer.
